Back in the room, Stanley called the doctor over.
The doctor stood respectfully at the bedside. “Mr. Hawk.”
Stanley looked at him and asked, “What’s wrong with me? Why do keep getting these splitting headaches? It feels like my head is about to explode.”
“We’ve run all the tests. According to the results, your body is perfectly healthy. There are no signs of any problems,” the doctor replied.

Then why did his head hurt so badly?
The doctor passed him the test results. “Please take a look. This is your brain CT scan–it’s perfectly fine.”
Stanley’s confusion deepened. He had a crushing headache, but the tests showed nothing wrong.
“Maybe you’ve been pushing yourself too hard lately. You should get some rest. I’ll stay by your side,” Jessica spoke up gently.
Stanley glanced at her. “You’ll stay by my side?”
Jessica nodded confidently. “Yes. Wendy carries bad energy. Every time you chase after her, you end up with a pounding headache and feeling faint. But I’m different. I’m your good luck charm. As long as I’m with you, everything will be fine.”
Stanley thought about it. Every time he thought about Wendy or got near her, the headaches came crashing down.
But whenever Jessica was around, the pain vanished.
He studied Jessica quietly, saying nothing.
Deep down, however, Jessica was still a little afraid of Stanley. Seeing him stare at her like that, she felt uneasy and rubbed her face nervously. “Is there something on my face?”
Stanley’s eyes narrowed slightly. “Why did you come to see me today? It seems like every time I get into trouble, you show up right on time. Isn’t that a little too coincidental?”
Jessica’s lips pulled into a smile. “That’s because I love you. No matter where you go, I want to follow. I want to be by you forever.”
Suddenly, Stanley reached out and grabbed Jessica’s arm, yanking it hard.

Stanley’s gaze darkened. “Did you do something to me? Did you tamper with me somehow?”

Jessica panicked, but forced herself to stay calm. “I don’t know what you’re talking about! How could I possibly mess with you? I
never even had the chance!”
Stanley looked deep into Jessica’s eyes, his expression unreadable, as if hiding some secret thought.
