Bella was still very young and didn’t understand the complicated world of adults. Angela didn’t want to say these things in front of the child.
“Bella, your daddy needs to rest properly now. Come on, I’ll take you home,” she said.
Bella kissed Stanley softly. “Daddy, I’m leaving now. Make sure to rest early, okay?”
Stanley hugged Bella again. “I’m going to miss you.”
With that, Angela took Bella away.
Now, the hospital room was left with just Stanley and Jessica.
Jessica sat down beside the bed. “I’m really glad you let me stay.”
This felt like a promising start.
Stanley looked at Jessica. “I don’t know why, but I feel better when you’re with me.”
Jessica smiled. “That’s because you love me. There’s still a place for me in your heart. You were just blinded by Wendy.”
Stanley raised an eyebrow. “Is that so?”
Jessica nodded confidently. “Absolutely.”
Stanley said, “Then stay here with me.”
Jessica’s heart soared. Finally, she could be close to Stanley.
Just then, Zayn rushed in. “Mr. Hawk, are you okay?”
Stanley glanced at Jessica. “Go get me a glass of water.”
Jessica brightened. “Sure. It’s a little cold in here, so I’ll go get some warm water.”
She left the room.
Zayn looked puzzled. “Mr. Hawk, why did you let Ms. Jessica stay here? If Mrs. Hawk finds out, she’ll be furious!”
Stanley knew Wendy was already upset, but he wasn’t able to see her now because of his condition. He couldn’t drag her into danger as well. He had to figure out what was wrong with himself first.
“Starting now, have someone follow Jessica around the clock. See who she meets with,” Stanley instructed.
Zayn blinked. “Are you suspecting something?”
Stanley was silent for a moment. “I think she has something to do with my condition.”
“What? She would dare to do such a thing? Why not catch her red–handed, then?”
“Whenever I get close to Wendy, my head feels like it’s being cracked open,” Stanley explained, “but when Jessica’s around, I feel better. Knowing Jessica as I do, she’s not that capable. I think there’s someone behind the scenes. I want to find out who that person is.”
Zayn nodded in understanding. “Alright. I’ll have someone keep a close eye on Ms. Jessica.”
“Even the cleverest criminal will become careless. We’ll just wait for Jessica to slip up.”
“Understood.”
“By the way, where’s Wendy now?” Stanley asked.

Jessica smiled gently. Then a soft, melodic ringtone sounded. She pulled out her phone and saw it was Ida calling.
She glanced at Stanley. “I’m going to take this call.”

Jessica stepped outside and pressed the button to answer. “Hello, Ms. Olsen.”
Ida asked, “Any progress with Stanley?”

“I actually angered Wendy so much that she walked off!” Jessica said. “They didn’t register their marriage. Stanley also let me stay here with him.”
