Chapter 99
Hearing his footsteps, Adele turned to face him and said seriously, “I’ve seen the property deed. Thank you.”
Before he could respond, she added, “I don’t have enough money at the moment, but 111 pay for it in the future.”
Though the villa was old, the location was good, and the property market in the capital was one of the highest in the country. That villa was worth at least two or three hundred million yuan, money she couldn’t afford right now.
Franklin paused for a moment, loosening his necktie. Upon hearing her words, he raised an eyebrow slightly, seeming intrigued. He said coolly, “You want to give me money?”
“Yes, I-”
“No need,” he interrupted, placing his loosened tie aside. “I can afford this myself.”
With that, he also placed his watch down and went into the bathroom.
Adele watched his retreating figure, stunned for a moment, but didn’t press the matter further.
Since their marriage, she had never really asked him for anything, wanting to avoid burdening him. In a way, this house was the first thing he had given her on his own initiative.
She thought to herself that perhaps it could be a keepsake for their soon–to–end marriage.
With that thought, she placed the property deed in the drawer.
After a few busy days, by the fourth day, things had finally quieted down for Adele.
She and Franklin had both been occupied, and she hadn’t had much time to spend with Isabella. During lunch, Isabella called to ask if she had time, saying it had been a while since Adele had picked her up from school.
Adele realized her schedule had cleared up a bit, so she decided to leave work early and pick up Isabella from school.
When she got home, Isabella mentioned that she was craving the dishes Adele used to cook. So, after changing clothes, Adele headed to the kitchen.
Since Adele got off early, Grandma was also pleased. Seeing that Adele was cooking, she called Franklin to ask him to come home for dinner.
Franklin declined, saying, “Grandma, I have something at the company.”
Grandma wasn’t pleased, but she quickly brightened up and, after hanging up, told Adele, “Mag, take the food to Frank later!”
Adele froze and declined, “Grandma, since he has something to do, we shouldn’t disturb him-”
“He still needs to eat, right?”
“Grandma-”
Before Adele could finish, Grandma decisively ordered, “It’s settled then.”
Grandma directed Aunt Sara and the others to make a couple of extra dishes.
Adele didn’t argue further. But she realized, if she was going to take the food to Franklin, she had no idea where he was working, and he probably wouldn’t be at the office.
Plus, he most likely had other arrangements, so even if she brought him food, it would probably be a wasted effort.
After thinking this through, she found a chance to go upstairs and call Franklin.
After a while, he picked up.
“What’s the matter?”
“Grandma wants me to bring you dinner,” Adele said, not waiting for him to respond. “Do you have other plans? If you do, I’ll tell Grandma.

She was pretty sure Franklin wouldn’t want her to deliver food to him. She was hoping he’d cooperate and make it easier for max to exput Grandma.
“Mm, you can tell Grandma-”
Before Franklin could finish his sentence, Adele suddenly heard Julia’s voice in the background.
“Frank, the food’s here.”
Adele paused.
Franklin responded to Julia, “Alright.”
Then, he turned to speak to Adele, “I’ve got dinner covered here. You can just let Grandma know.”
Adele wasn’t surprised by this response.
“Okay, I’ll tell her,” she replied, resigned.
“Mm.”
With that, Franklin hung up the phone.
Adele put her phone down and went downstairs to tell Grandma that Franklin already had dinner arrangements.
That evening, Franklin didn’t come home.
The next morning, when Grandma learned that Franklin had not come home the previous night, she became upset.
“That Frank! Even if work is busy, can’t he find time to come home?”
Adele smiled but didn’t respond.
Even if Franklin was busy, surely he would come home eventually. After all, he needed rest too.
But when she thought about Julia’s voice on the phone the previous night, she figured the reason he hadn’t returned home was probably because he had somewhere better to be.
In the next few days, Cole’s major projects for the next two years were finalized. However, Johnny still consolidated their plans and sent them over to Nolan for feedback.
Nolan was usually very busy and unpredictable. Adele and Johnny both thought that it would be a few days–or even half a month–before they would hear back from him.
But to their surprise, he called that very afternoon.
“Not a bad idea.”
With Nolan’s approval, both Adele and Johnny felt more confident in the project they had been working on.
They both knew that their teacher’s standards were exceptionally high, so when he said “not bad,” it was already a very positive evaluation.
Nolan continued,
“Looking at the materials you sent over, whether it’s the past fundamentals or the recent developments in the Al field, you haven’t missed anything. It’s pretty good.”
This was clearly directed at Adele.
Her nose tingled, and before she could speak, Nolan coldly added, “But you’ve still been too lazy. In the pursuit of learning, if you don’t progress, you fall behind. Actually, you’re regressing.*
Adele quickly responded, “I know, teacher. I will do my best to make up for the time I’ve lost these past few years.

Nolan’s teaching style was always brief and to the point. Once he said his piece, he would stop.
Seeing that Nolan seemed to have some free time, Adele couldn’t help but ask, “Teacher, do you have time tonight? I’d like to have dinner with you.”
It wasn’t just Adele–Johnny hadn’t had a meal with Nolan in a long time either.
Hearing Adele’s invitation, Johnny quickly nodded. “Yes, teacher, do you have time?”
Nolan answered indifferently, “I already have an appointment. No time.”
“Ah?” Johnny was clearly disappointed.
Adele felt the same.
She was about to ask Nolan when he would be free next, so she could arrange another time to meet, but before she could say anything, Nolan added, “The person I’m meeting is Franklin Collins.”
