Chapter 772
Without hesitation, Wendy pressed her fingers against Stanley’s wrist and checked his pulse.
Stanley tried to pull his hand away, but she held firm. “Don’t move”
Almost immediately, Wendy furrowed her brows, concern flickering across her face.
Halsey noticed and asked, “Why are you frowning? What’s wrong with Stanley?”
The last thing any patient would want is for the doctor to look worried.
Wendy glanced at Stanley. “Tell me what’s going on with you?”
Stanley confessed, “I don’t even know what’s wrong, but I’m certain it’s all because of you.”
“Because of Wendy? What do you mean?” Halsey asked, confused.
Stanley looked down, his voice low. “When I’m not near you, I feel normal. But as soon as I get close, my head feels like it’s splitting apart. Remember that day we were supposed to go to the courthouse to get married? I didn’t skip on purpose. I suddenly got this terrible headache, and then I blacked out. By the time I woke up and rushed over to find you, you were already gone.”
Halsey’s eyes widened. “What? So that’s what happened! Wendy, what’s wrong with Stanley?”
Wendy’s expression grew serious. “I think he’s been cursed by the Heartchain Curse.”
“The Heartchain Curse?”
“Exactly. It’s a witchcraft curse from Coldost. That’s why Stanley can’t be near me.”
“Coldost witchcraft? How could Stanley have fallen victim to a curse by a Coldost witch? Who would do something like that to him?”
Wendy looked Stanley in the eye. “You’ve already got a suspect, haven’t you?”
Stanley gave a slight nod. “You guessed it?”
Wendy’s lips curled into a knowing smile. “You deliberately asked Jessica out for dinner, only to stand her up and make sure she saw us together. You gave her hope and disappointed her so that she’d feel terrible. She’s your suspect, isn’t she?”
‘Stanley raised an eyebrow. Wendy was sharp–she had it all figured out.
Smart people didn’t need many words to get things across. Wendy understood him completely.
She immediately pulled out a silver needle. “I’m going to give you a quick needle treatment to ease the pain.”
Carefully, Wendy inserted the needle into Stanley’s temple. “Feeling any better now?”
Her soft hand rested gently on his head. Looking into her tender, caring eyes, Stanley melted into her embrace, burying his handsome face in the softness of her hair.
“As long as you’re here, the pain’s gone.”
Wendy hesitated for a moment. She knew exactly how agonizing the Heartchain Curse could be. She wrapped her arms around him tightly. “You’re such an idiot.”
“I know you waited at the courthouse all day for me. I’m sorry–I really am,” Stanley said quietly.
Wendy smiled softly. “You could have told me.”
“The headache came on so suddenly and violently. I was scared you’d get dragged into danger, so I didn’t want to risk telling you.”

“I’m stronger than you think. No matter what happens, you have to tell me right away. Whatever challenges come our way, we should face them together.”
Stanley nodded. “Okay.”
“Please, save the lovey–dovey for later,” Halsey interjected, sounding impatient. “There’s no doubt about it–Jessica’s behind this. But how could she possibly have access to witchcraft from Coldost?”
Wendy and Stanley stepped apart.
Stanley pressed his lips together. “She must have someone working behind the scenes.”
“Who do you think it is?”
Stanley and Wendy exchanged a look.
“We’ll find out when we get there.”
