Chapter 776
Horace fixed his gaze on Ida. “Don’t you think you owe me an explanation for all this?”
Ida knew the tide had turned completely. There was no point in arguing anymore.
She looked at Horace calmly. “What exactly do you want me to explain?”
Her cool tone only fueled Horace’s fury. He took two angry steps forward and grabbed her roughly by the throat.
“I trusted you so much! Why would you do this? Brittany is my wife and you tried to hurt her. She almost died giving birth. All these years, I still protected you, thinking you were a simple, kind hearted woman!” he roared.
Ida struggled for breath under Horace’s grip, the anger blazing in his handsome face looming over her. She sneered, “That kind -hearted version of me died long ago.”
Horace’s eyes reddened, his body temperature drasa
chilling rage enveloped him. He looked terrifying.
“What do you mean? Your father died because of my family. We supported you all these years, and I treated you like a sister. Wasn’t that enough?”
“Of course it wasn’t enough!” Ida spat. “You gave me a villa, sure, but that’s not what I want. What I’ve ever wanted was you!”
Horace blinked, stunned.
“We grew up together; we’re childhood sweethearts. If
fit:
Weren’t for Brittany, I would have married you. I should’ve been Mrs.
Larson!
“But you married Brittany. Do you know how much that hurt me? It hurt more than losing my life! Especially when I watched you and her after the wedding, so close, so in love. I couldn’t stand watching you fall for her slowly. Why should Brittany take everything away from me? She’s just a nuisance. If she disappeared, you’d be mine! I want her dead!”
The overwhelming jealousy and hatred twisted Ida’s delicate face until it was almost unrecognizable. Horace took a step back. “Ida, you’ve changed. I don’t even recognize you anymore.‘
“I changed because of Brittany. Because of you!”
She stared at Horace’s handsome face as if mesmerized. Slowly, she reached out and touched his cheek.
“Why can’t you understand? I love you. I love you more than Brittany ever could.”
Her hand brushed closer, but Horace turned his head sharply, avoiding her touch. With one forceful motion, he pushed her away.
Ida stumbled back several feet, collapsing to the floor in a mess.
Horace looked down on her, cold and resolute.
“Listen carefully. I’ve never had feelings for you–not in the past, not now, not ever. The only thing I regret is being blind enough not to see your true colors. I’ve already repaid whatever my family owes yours. From now on, I have nothing to do with you. If you ever hurt my wife or anyone close to me again, I swear I will never forgive you!”
Horace’s hatred was so deep it shook the room. He never imagined he had been nurturing a threat all along. The one who harmed Brittany all these years had been right under his nose, and he had been protecting her.
Ida’s face turned pale as death. She knew she had lost Horace forever. He would never be hers in this life.
