Gilbert chuckled. “Sure. I’ll be waiting. Littuane Hotel, Presidential Suite. Make sure you don’t get the wrong room.” Halsey ended the call without another word.
Gilbert was already waiting in the Presidential Suite at the Littuane Hotel. He had been there long before Halsey called. He knew she would come.
As the only daughter of the Lincoln family, Halsey had been spoiled and cherished since childhood. Whatever she wanted, her parents were more than willing to give her. Gilbert poured himself a small glass of red wine: He wasn’t in a rush to drink it. He swirled the wine gently, watching its rich color ripple inside the glass.
Soon, a soft chime rang out. It was the doorbell.
Someone had arrived. It must be Halsey.
Gilbert smiled. She had come faster than he expected.
He raised the wine glass and drank it all down in one gulp, then stood and walked to open the door.
The door swung open, and Halsey stood there, her crystal–clear eyes blazing with anger.
Gilbert smirked. “You’re quicker than I thought.”
Halsey shot him a glare. “Step aside!”
Gilbert moved, and Halsey stepped inside without hesitation.
He raised an eyebrow in amusement and closed the door behind her.
Standing in the room, Halsey stared him down.
Gilbert grinned. “You came right in, huh? Don’t you worry that I might do something to you? After all, it’s just the two of us here. That can be dangerous.”
Halsey’s voice was steady. “Since I agreed to come, I’m not scared. So tell me–did you mess with Lincoln Enterprise?”
Gilbert loved how straightforward Halsey was–no airs, no pretending. She went straight to the point.
He stepped closer and nodded. “Yeah, it was me. That worker works for me.”
Halsey said nothing.
Gilbert went on, “I know Lincoln Enterprise is working with a multinational company. This deal will lock up all their liquid assets, so it’s critical. Not a single mistake can happen.
“At such an important moment, I couldn’t just stand by. So I found a worker and paid him a huge sum to fall and break his leg on purpose. Then I told him to stir up trouble, damage Lincoln Enterprise’s reputation, and make the multinational company want to cut ties. Even your father getting hurt today–that was me.”
Gilbert confessed everything. It matched exactly what Halsey had suspected.
She wasn’t surprised, but furious. “Our families have been close for generations. My dad practically watched you grow up! How
you do this to us? Don’t you have any conscience?”
