What?
Halsey froze for a moment, stunned.
Shaun had come to play golf because of her?
At a time when Lincoln Enterprise was on the brink of collapse, its funding running dangerously low, he stood by her side.
Her heart swelled with gratitude. Her clear, shimmering eyes glistened as she looked at Shaun. “Thank you.”
She meant it sincerely.
Shaun met her gaze, a faint smile tugging at his lips. “No problem
The dinner ended on a warm and pleasant note. William left first, and Halsey and Shaun stepped out of the restaurant together.
Halsey looked at Shaun. “I really can’t thank you enough this time. If it weren’t for you, Mr. Payne would have definitely cut ties with Lincoln Enterprise.”
Shaun shook his head. “I’m glad to help. Consider it a thank–you for helping raise Maddy all these years.”
Mentioning Madeline brought a proud glow to Halsey’s face. “You know, she’s done amazing these past three years. Honestly, I didn’t do much for her–she did it all by herself. She just got into a research institute, so she only comes home once every two weeks. When she’s back, I’ll make sure you two reconnect.”
Shaun watched Halsey’s happiness; he knew better than anyone that no matter how talented Madeline was, without family backing, she could run into a lot of danger. Over these years, the Lincoln family had been Madeline’s strongest shield. Without them, she wouldn’t be where she was today.
Halsey smiled brightly. “I have tons of photos of Maddy from the past three years. I’ll bring them for you someday so you can see how much she’s grown-”
Before she could finish, Shaun reached out and pulled her into a tight embrace.
Halsey froze.
Shaun held her close, his voice low and earnest. “Halsey, thank you.”
Halsey smirked. “That thank–you didn’t sound very sincere.”
Shaun loosened his hold. “Then how do you want me to thank you?”
He cupped her face gently and pressed a deep kiss to her lips.
Halsey’s legs went weak again as the same helpless, melting feeling she had felt earlier in the hotel bathroom swept over her. She wrapped her arms tightly around Shaun’s neck to keep herself from sliding down.
Shaun’s eyes darkened. “Do you have to go back tonight?”
Caught in his kiss, Halsey was dizzy with desire. “What?”
Shaun whispered, “If your parents are okay with it, come to my place tonight.”
He was inviting her to spend the night.
Halsey blushed and stammered, “G–Go to your place? Why?”
The words slipped out before she could stop herself. She wished she could bite her tongue off.
Shaun chuckled softly. “Why do you
think?”
Halsey’s cheeks flamed red. “I…”

Chapter 825
Just then, someone approached. “Shaun.”
Halsey quickly pulled away from Shaun. She looked up and saw a familiar face–Warren, Shaun’s old buddy.
In the past three years, Warren had started his own small company and was doing pretty well as a young boss.
He was accompanied by a girl named Chelsea Sutton, who was strikingly beautiful and clearly the refined type.
Warren and Chelsea came over to Shaun.
Chelsea tilted her head up and looked at Shaun.
“Done with your socializing? You should drink less. It’s not good for your body.”
Shaun nodded. “Got it.”
Warren glanced at Halsey. “Ms. Halsey?”
Halsey smiled politely. “Hey, Warren. It’s been a while.”
Warren grinned. “Well, you’re the heiress of the Lincoln family–people like us don’t get to see you much.”
Halsey froze. She could already sense the cold edge of Warren’s hostility toward her.
