Halsey looked Gilbert squarely in the eye.

Halsey shoved him hard and turned to walk away.
Gilbert stayed rooted, his gaze heavy and cold as he watched the direction where Halsey and Shaun had disappeared.

The luxury car sped down the road. Shaun and Chelsea sat in the backseat while Warren drove.
Warren asked Shaun with a grin, “So, you told Ms. Halsey who you are?”
Shaun shot a glance toward him. “Don’t be too bitter toward her anymore.”
“Why are you still defending her? Have you forgotten what she did to you three years ago? You risked your life to find her after completing your mission, but she betrayed you and got with Gilbert. They’re even engaged! She just sees you as a stain on her life. She sent people to throw acid on your face and pushed your car off a cliff to kill you. Do you not remember how hard you had to fight to survive those three years?”
Warren’s voice was filled with anger and disbelief.
Shaun pressed his lips together. “I don’t think she knew about what happened back then. I believe she wasn’t the one who sent them.”
“Even if not her, it was her fiancé Gilbert who ordered it. None of them are good people! You survived a death sentence and came back reborn. Now’s not the time to get caught up in the fight between Lincoln Enterprise and Greenwood Corporation, Why do you still get involved in her matters?”
“She helped me raise Maddy these past three years…” Shaun said quietly.
“Enough! You always have excuses. The truth is, you can’t forget her! Now that you’re a rising star in business and Lincoln Enterprise is shaky, she’s clinging to you. You forget everything just because of a kiss. Wake up! She’s just using you!”
Shaun thought back to Halsey’s warmth in the bathroom. He had to admit that she didn’t need to do much to sweep him away.
Warren’s concern ran deep. Three years ago, he had found Dwight now Shaun—at the bottom of a cliff, barely hanging on. Shaun’s face was a bloody mess, his body covered in wounds. It was a miracle he had survived.
Warren could never understand why Shaun wanted to come back and find Halsey.
Through the rearview mirror, Warren glanced at Shaun in the backseat.
Dressed in an expensive black suit, Shaun carried the air of a mature, wealthy business elite who was untouchable.
But Dwight was part of Shaun’s life, and Halsey had been the brightest part of Dwight’s world.
That delicate, refined heiress was like the most dazzling fireworks in Dwight’s life. Forgetting her was simply impossible.
Yet, Warren would never agree to Shaun being with Halsey again.
Just then, Chelsea said softly, “Shaun, I’m a doctor, and I’ve been taking care of your health these three years, so you have to follow my medical advice. The rest doesn’t matter.”
