Halsey’s skin was smooth and radiant, impossible to resist. Shaun alld one hand up her dress while the other tugged at his belt, his voice low and rough
“You wanted to thank me, right? Well, this is how I want it. What do you say?”
Halsey struggled against him. “No! I don’t want this!”
“You’re unbelievable. Just once, and we’re even,” Shaun sneered.
Halsey felt like she was losing her mind. Shaun already had a girlfriend, so why was he still doing this to her? She didn’t want to be with him like this.
“No! I said no! Can’t you hear me? Let go! You’re hurting me… It hurts… It really hurts…”
Her cries of pain made Shaun’s heart twist and tingle.
He leaned down to kiss her, whispering, “Be quier
”
Halsey’s hands dug into his arm, scratching through his suit fabric until they drew blood.
Shaun buried his face in her neck. In the darkness, everything felt chaotic. He greedily breathed in the sweet, soft scent of her skin, kissing her earlobe.
“Haven’t you been with a man the past few years? You’re acting like the first time we did this…”
She was driving him crazy, like the first time.
Halsey dared not move. Any movement sent pain shooting through her. She clenched her fists and pounded him. “Get off me! Please! Why are you doing this to me?”
Shaun’s voice was hoarse, ragged with longing. Since they parted at that private club, he hadn’t stopped thinking about her. He had spent countless nights awake, unable to sleep.
He had his assistant track her down and found out she was dining at this restaurant, so he came.
What he saw tore at him–her laughing and chatting with Calvin, clearly on a date.
Every night he suffered alone with his yearning, and here she was with another man. He couldn’t stand it anymore.
Why could she be with other men, but not him?
He wanted her, too.
He wanted her so badly.
Shaun pressed down on her, his throat moving as he spoke. “Are you going to see Calvin again? What did you just text him? Did he crack a joke? You looked so happy.”
Halsey shook her head. “I didn’t! I didn’t send him anything!”
“You liar,” Shaun growled softly, trying to pull up.
Halsey wrapped her arms around his neck, holding him back. “No. It really hurts…”
Just then, a chime echoed in the quiet room. Halsey’s phone, left on the bed, lit up with a new text.
Shaun’s eyes sharpened. “Calvin sent you a message!”
Halsey shook her head again. “I told you, I didn’t text him! I was texting Maddy.”
Shaun looked up, catching sight of her glowing phone. The message was indeed from Madeline. Her words appeared on the
screen.

Shaun froze.
Halsey met his gaze. “My mom and I came here for lunch today, and we ran into Calvin at the entrance. Everyone in this circle grew up together, so I just chatted with him a little. Then you came in. That’s it. If there’s anything else you want to know, I’ll tell you.”
So it wasn’t what he had thought. He had misunderstood her.
“I’m sorry…” Shaun whispered.
Halsey pushed him away. “Go away! Let me go!”
Shaun bent down and kissed her red lips. Her explanation didn’t cool the fire in his eyes; it only fanned the flames higher.
He lowered his head again. “Please… I want you.”
