She quickly hopped into the front, clearly trying to leave space in the back for the couple.

Halsey could tell exactly what Madeline was doing. At that moment, Shaun opened the back door like a gentleman Ladies first.
Halsey slid into the backseat. Shaun got in right after her and shut the door. Soon, the luxury car was gliding smoothly down the road.
Madeline turned her head and asked, “Are you heading home or back to the office?”
Shaun replied, “I’m going to the office. You two going home?”
Madeline looked at Halsey. “Are we heading home now?”
Halsey could feel Shaun’s eyes on her face. She quickly said, “Yeah home.”
Just then, the secretary driving made a sharp turn. Caught off guard, Halsey tipped to the side from the momentum.
An arm shot out, strong and steady, wrapping around her slim waist and pulling her into a firm embrace. Shaun had caught her.
She looked up and met his deep, intense gaze. Her heart started pounding.
The car leveled out again, and Halsey quickly straightened up.
As soon as they were no longer touching, the heat in her body seemed to cool down a little.
Suddenly, Shaun said, “Martin, didn’t you say you needed to stop by the store?”
Martin was confused. “I don’t think I-”
He caught Shaun’s glance in the rearview mirror. Shaun gave him a very clear signal with his eyes.
Martin got it instantly and quickly changed his tune. “Oh, right! Now I remember, I did want to grab a few things. There’s a supermarket nearby. I’ll pull over.”
Martin stopped the car at the side of the road and got out.

Halsey called after her, “Hey, I’m coming too, Wait for me–ah!”

Halsey started to struggle. “Mr. Lane, what are you doing? Let me go!”
Shaun let out a low laugh, lips curled. “Maddy and Martin are going to get something. Why are you tagging along?”
“I–I need to buy something too…”
“Liar,” he said, pinching her chin and tilting her head up. “You’re avoiding me, aren’t you?”
“I’m not.”
“Don’t lie. You’re totally avoiding me.”
