Chapter 847
The worker froze, his face draining of color. “Mr. Greenwood? Gilbert Greenwood?”
One of the men in black nodded grimly. “That’s right. He sent us to end you. You’re gonna die today.”
Fear cracked the worker’s voice. “You must be mistaken! How could Mr. Greenwood want me dead? Call him again and ask. There’s no way he wants to harm me!”
“Cut the nonsense,” one of the guards snapped.
“I’m telling the truth,” the worker insisted. “Just call Mr. Greenwood and ask. We’re working together. Has he already forgotten?”
A cold laugh escaped the guardsman. “He hasn’t forgotten a thing He says you know too much. Only the dead won’t talk. He also said that you’re worth more dead than alive right now.”
The worker’s voice trembled. “What do you mean?”
“Don’t you get it? Once you’re dead, all the public backlash will fall on Lincoln Enterprise, and they’ll be crushed. Mr. Greenwood says your life is worthless anyway, so he’s using you to take down Lincoln Enterprise. At least your death will serve a purpose.”
One of the guards glanced at another and gave a sharp nod. “What are you waiting for? Get rid of him. Mr. Greenwood’s waiting.”
“We’re on it!”
Two men brought over a length of hemp rope and looped it around the worker’s neck, pulling it tight.
The worker was sharp. At first, he doubted the men sent by Gilbert He figured Gilbert wouldn’t actually want him dead–but now, with the rope choking him, the suffocating pressure crashed down all at once. Panic overtook him.
He scrambled to claw at the rope.
“Let me go! Why is Mr. Greenwood doing this to me? We had an agreement! He told me to pretend to break a leg on the job so I could pin it on Lincoln Enterprise. He even got a few of my sons to stir up trouble. I did everything he asked! Now Lincoln Enterprise is drowning in bad press, just like he wanted. I did exactly as I was told. Why does he want me dead? He won’t get away with this!”
The guards exchanged a look, then suddenly loosened their grip.
Seizing the moment, the worker jerked free and kicked one of the guards down, then he scrambled up and ran.
He vanished from sight like a man fleeing for his life.
The men in black stood up and approached Shaun and Halsey. “Mr. Lane, the worker got away. He was so scared that he even soiled himself.”
Shaun’s lips curled into a knowing smile. “He’s got nothing but hatred for Gilbert now.”
He turned to Halsey. “He’ll contact your father soon and turn on Gilbert.”
Halsey’s eyes sparkled with surprise. She hadn’t expected Shaun to have someone impersonate Gilbert’s subordinates.
Gilbert was sneaky and cunning, but he probably never saw this trick coming from Shaun.
Noticing Halsey’s gaze, Shaun smiled and said, “When dealing with these kinds of people, you have to use extreme measures. It’s the art of fighting fire with fire.”
Halsey nodded. “You really are something.”
At that moment, one of the black–clad guards handed over a voice recorder. “Mr. Lane, this is the recording from earlier.”

Shaun took it and placed it in Halsey’s hand. “Keep this. Everything the worker said was recorded. It’s proof enough to turn things around for Lincoln Enterprise.”
Halsey clenched the recorder tightly.
Shaun had everything covered.
She knew she had made the right choice coming to him.
