Shaun asked Halsey to be his girlfriend.
She was single, and he wasn’t married either. Honestly, it made perfect sense for them to be together now.
But there had still been that three–year gap between them.

Shaun carried Halsey into the CEO’s office and helped her take a shower. Then, being extra gentle, he laid her down on the bed.
She was completely exhausted and fell asleep the moment her head hit the pillow.
Shaun showered quickly, then got into bed beside her. He wrapped his arms around her, holding her close. After three years and six days, she was finally back in his arms.
He kissed her forehead deeply and whispered, “Goodnight.”
When Halsey woke up, it was to the warm feeling of Shaun’s arms around her. He was still asleep.
As soon as she moved a little, Shaun opened his eyes. He pulled her in tighter, his voice still low and a little hoarse from sleep. “You’re awake?”
Halsey shifted slightly. Her body was sore and tired all over. She lightly tapped him with her fist. “I’m so sore.”
Shaun smiled lazily. “You need to work on your stamina.”
Halsey rolled her eyes silently.
Just then, there was a knock at the door. Martin’s voice came from outside. “Mr. Lane?”
Halsey looked around and realized she was in his office lounge. She had no memory of how she got from the car to here last night.
She whispered, “Someone’s knocking.”

Shaun kept his arms around her and called out, “What is it?”
Martin replied, “Mr. Lane, should we postpone the 9:00 AM executive meeting? The senior staff are all waiting.”
Halsey glanced at the clock. It was already 8:50 AM.

Halsey quickly sat up. “I need to get up. You should, too. You have a meeting.”
Shaun sat up as well and slid up behind her. “Are you rushing me off to my meeting because you’re worried I won’t be able to provide for you? Don’t worry. I can afford as many of you as I want.”
So this was what the new king of business sounded like straight–up bold.
Halsey turned to look at him. “Who said I need you to provide for me?”
Shaun grinned. “Don’t you want me to? Didn’t you hear what I said last night? We’re together now!”
He took her small hand and kissed it.
Halsey quickly pulled her hand back. “If you want to be my boyfriend, then you’d better act like it.”
Shaun laughed. “Of course! If you tell me to go east, I wouldn’t dare go west. From now on, I’ll do whatever you say!”
Halsey smirked. “That’s more like it!”
Shaun stood up too. “I’m off to my meeting. Stay here in my office. Someone will bring you breakfast soon. Let’s have dinner together tonight.”
He was already managing her whole day. Was this what being in a relationship felt like?
Halsey nodded. “Okay.”
Shaun kissed her, then left the room.
When he stepped into the office, Martin was already waiting.
“Let’s go. The meeting’s ready to start.”
