Martin glanced at Shaun and pointed to his neck. “Mr. Lane, do you want to cover up that hickey?”
Shaun looked in the mirror and saw the mark Halsey had left on his neck last night. He raised an eyebrow, clearly in a good mood.
“No need. Let’s go.”
Shaun headed out with Martin. As they passed by, the employees greeted him respectfully.
“Good morning, Mr. Lane.”
Shaun walked steadily toward the conference room. As soon as he passed, everyone started whispering.
“Did you guys see that hickey on Mr. Lane’s neck? Someone actually gave him a hickey!”
“The meeting that was supposed to start at 9:00 AM got delayed. All the execs were waiting for him. Word is, he’s hiding someone in his office. They just woke up together.”
“Wanna bet what happened in there last night?”
“Pfft, I think everyone knows exactly what happened.”
The gossip spread like wildfire.
Meanwhile, Halsey had just gotten up and stepped into the office. Martin had already arranged breakfast for her.
“Good morning, Ms. Mallin. Mr. Lane asked us to prepare this for you. Please enjoy,” Martin said politely.
Halsey sat down. “Thanks.”
Martin left, and Halsey immediately noticed employees peeking in through the glass, trying to catch a glimpse of her. Everyone was curious to see who the future Mrs. Lane might be.
Halsey’s cheeks turned red. She had no idea why Shaun brought her here to his company.
Now, the whole place knew. It felt a little too public.
She sat down and began eating breakfast, but just then, her phone rang. The soft chime of the ringtone echoed in the room.
It was Gilbert again.
Halsey picked up and answered, “Gilbert, this is the last time I’m picking up. After this, I’m blocking you. You’re seriously messing with my life.”
Gilbert’s voice was cold. “You spent the whole night with Shaun, didn’t you? You two slept together. You’re disgusting!”
Halsey gave a cold laugh. “Sleeping with Shaun makes me disgusting? Fine. Then let me be clear–I love him. I want to be with him. Is that what you wanted to hear?”
Gilbert clenched his fists. “You little…”
Suddenly, his tone shifted. “I want to see you.”

“No, I’m not meeting you. I still haven’t forgotten what you did to my family.”
“You really don’t want to see me? Don’t you want to know what happened to Shaun’s face?”

Halsey’s heart skipped a beat. She had asked Shaun a few times about his face, but he had always avoided
answering.
Something about it didn’t feel right.
“You know what happened to Shaun’s face?” she asked,
“I do.”
“Then tell me!”
“I will. Let’s talk face to face.”
Gilbert wanted to meet in person to tell her.
Halsey paused, then said, “Send me the address. I’m coming now.”
“Okay.”
Shaun had just finished a one–hour meeting. As soon as it ended, he returned to his office and pushed open the door.
“Halsey-”
He stopped short.
The room was empty. Halsey was gone.
Where had she gone?
Shaun turned to Martin. “Where did Halsey go?”
“I’m not sure,” Martin replied. “I saw her take a call, and then she left.”
