Halsey left after one phone call?
Shaun frowned, his brow furrowed tightly. “Do you know who called her?”
Martin shook his head. “I’m sorry, I don’t.”
“Got it. You can go.
“Alright.”
Martin left the room.
Shaun, tall and lean, stood in front of the floor–to–ceiling windows. He fugged at his tie slightly. Halsey had promised to wait for him in his office, and they were supposed to have dinner together tonight. She agreed. And yet, she left.
They had just gotten back together last night. Shaun didn’t want to be apart from her again–not ever.
He pulled out his phone, opened their chat, and started typing.
Where did you go?]
Before he could hit send, his phone rang.
He answered, “Hello, who’s this?”
A familiar voice came through. “Mr. Lane, it’s me.”
It was Gilbert.
Shaun’s face didn’t change. “Gilbert. Why are you calling me?”
Gilbert chuckled. “Are you looking for Halsey right now?”
Shaun’s eyes darkened. “Is she with you?”
“Yeah, she is. We’re having lunch together.”
Halsey went to lunch with Gilbert.
Shaun let out a cold laugh. “I don’t believe you.”
“I’m not lying. If you don’t believe me, you’re welcome to come see for yourself.”
Shaun’s lips tightened into a cold, hard line. He didn’t respond.
Gilbert kept going, “I know you and Halsey were together last night, but so what? You w
one for three years. And during that time, she was with me. Sure, we’re not getting along now, but that doesn’t erase our past.”
He added with a mocking tone, “She’s pretty wild in bed, isn’t she? I bet you loved that, huh?”
Shaun’s whole body went ice cold. His voice turned sharp. “What the hell are you trying to say?”
“Oh, come on! Don’t play dumb. She was always fiery in bed with me. And when she moans, she sounds just

like a little kitten, soft and sweet…”
“You shut your damn mouth!” Shaun’s fist clenched tight, and his face darkened with rage.

Gilbert just laughed louder. “Oh, did I hit a nerve? Don’t get too worked up. I’ve still got lunch to enjoy with Halsey, so I’ll let you go.”
Then Gilbert hung up.
Shaun stood there gripping his phone, his chest rising and falling fast. He was furious.
“Martin!”
Martin rushed in the second he heard his name. “Mr. Lane, what happened?”
He had worked with Shaun for three years, and this was the first time he had ever seen Shaun look this
angry.
“Find them! I want to know exactly where Halsey and Gilbert are. Do it right now!”
“Okay, I’ll get right on it.”
Martin quickly went to investigate.
Shaun yanked open the top buttons of his shirt. He felt like he couldn’t breathe. He had to see Halsey right
now.
He had to!
Before long, Martin came back. “I found them. I just sent the address to your phone.”
Shaun grabbed his car keys and stormed out.
At that moment, Halsey was sitting across from Gilbert in a romantic restaurant. They had a window–side table with a clear view of the street.
She looked him in the eye. “So, what really happened to Shaun’s face?”
Gilbert gave her a sly smile. “Relax. Let’s eat first.”
