Chapter 23
The next second, Noel’s car experienced a strong impact, and the car window’s shards flew everywhere.
Blood gushed out from him like a fountain.
He felt emptiness before the intense pain came.
Before Noel lost consciousness, he used the last of his energy to yank off the necklace
around his neck.
A song was still playing in his car, which had been crushed to pieces.
It sang, “I had you before. It pains me so much now.”
Stella found out about Noel’s accident eight hours later.
Their family was still at the old mansion that night.
The girls were already asleep and still muttering about wanting to put away a piece of cake.
Eric and Stella thought they were still thinking about the castle cake and were discussing if they should order another one the next day. That was when Eric got the call.
His smiling face immediately turned grim as he quickly put on his clothes.
“My big brother said that Noel has been in an accident. I’m going to the hospital to check on him. Stay here with the kids and Dad, Stella. Let’s keep this under wraps for now.”
Stella was shocked by the news.
She thought that Eric would be safe if he stayed at home. Stella did not expect anything to happen to Noel.
It was the same date and the same kind of accident. They were both Chiltons…
This was too much of a coincidence. Stella began to wonder if this was heaven’s will or someone’s doing.
If this was fate, why did Noel end up paying the price for Eric’s ending?
However, if this was someone’s doing, who hated the Chiltons so much?
Stella thought about this all night but could not figure out why.
When the sun rose, Stella received a message from Eric.
“He did not survive.”

Stella understood the magnitude behind those simple words.
She clenched her hands and closed her eyes.
Stella’s heart had been unsettled the entire night, and now, it sank deep into an abyss.
Years had gone by, and she had let go of whatever unhappiness that was once between them.
She had always treated Noel as a member of the big family.
However, Stella still found it difficult to breathe after finding out about his sudden death. They had grown up together and been close for years, after all.
She was much more at a loss rather than sad.
She felt helpless.
There was also a sense of fear for the unknown future.
Eric told Stella about the outcome of the investigation after the funeral.
“The police said it was foul play, but there isn’t any news of the murderer for now. That car didn’t have a license plate, and the police said it must have been stolen from a junkyard. They’re still investigating this. Noel was clutching onto a necklace from the time of the accident until the doctors announced his death. I wonder if the murderer left it behind or if
there’s a deeper meaning behind the necklace.”
Stella frowned slightly when she heard this.
“Necklace? What necklace?”
Eric showed her the picture of the necklace taken at the hospital.
Stella took a glance and immediately recognized the bloody necklace.
It was the coming–of–age present Noel had given her.
Stella yanked off the necklace and returned it to him before her wedding to Eric.
She did not expect him to still be keeping it after so long.
Emotions overcame her at that moment.
Besides that, a thought appeared in her mind.
However, she had no concrete idea yet.
