Chapter 2
She screamed, grabbing the blood bags that had nearly cost me my life and smashing them on the floor.
Seeing my eyes open, her face contorted, a dark madness rising in her gaze.
She grabbed a pair of medical scissors, rushed toward me. Sensing what she was about to do, I instinctively flinched. But she slashed viciously at my face.
Warm blood trickled down my cheek onto the pristine white blanket.
My vision blurred.
But Vivian wasn’t done. She climbed on top of me, pinning my hands with her knees, wildly swinging the scissors at my face again and again.
“It’s all your fault Uncle doesn’t pay attention to me anymore! Who do you think you are? Just a shameless bitch! Let’s see how you seduce Uncle without that pretty face.”
I lost consciousness to the sound of nurses screaming.
When I Wo
up, only a young nurse was watching over me.
“You’re finally awake. Your face got cut more than 20 times. Lucky you were already in the hospital–they were able to trea
you quickly. Your pretty face should recover. That girl was vicious though, almost like she wanted you dead.”
I gently touched the bandages covering my face. “Where’s the man who was here earlier?”
The nurse guessed our relationship, her eyes showing pity.
“After you passed out, that girl got scared and started crying. He rushed off carrying her to find a doctor.”
I smiled numbly.
A dull pain spread from my heart throughout my body.
My face had been slashed more than 20 times by Vivian, and Ethan didn’t care.
But when Vivian shed a few crocodile tears, his world fell apart.
Love and indifference–the contrast couldn’t have been clearer.
I’d been deceiving myself, thinking that if I loved him enough, I could eventually warm his cold heart.

Chapter 2
But the bloody truth had slapped me hard in the face.
I picked up my phone, intending to check how long I had been unconscious, when a notification from Vivian’s social media popped up.
In the video, she cuddled against Ethan, whimpering, “Uncle, I lost control and cut Sophia Mitchell’s face. Do you think she’ll hate me?”
Ethan laughed dismissively. “You didn’t mean to. She’s not that petty, and she loves me so much that with a little sweet talk from me, she’d give not just her face but her life for me.”
“Haha, she’s like a pathetic stray dog.”
My body trembled uncontrollably, as if I’d been thrown into a frozen wasteland.
Five years of love was, in Ethan’s eyes, worth nothing at all.
Fighting back tears, I called my mother in Harbor City. “Mom, I’ll agree to the White–Hamilton marriage arrangement.”
