Chapter 12 More In Common
Chapter 12 More In Common
“We’re about to get married. Is this really necessary?” The thought just popped into Eleanor’s mind when she heard Tyler’s voice. “There has to be closure on this,” Tyler said. “What if, later on, you change your mind again? What should I do–agree or not?”
Eleanor understood then–Tyler was worried she might go back on her word and make more demands. It was understandable, though. She had waffled on the whole thing. twice already when it came to Chris.
“Mr. Langford,” she said instinctively, but as soon as she saw the look Tyler shot her, she quickly corrected herself, “Tyler, about the third thing–I want to marry you. Will you marry me?”
“Sure.” Tyler answered without hesitation. “Let me see the agreement.”
Eleanor handed him the agreement, eyeing him carefully. “I can assure you, I haven’t taken advantage of you at all in this agreement,” she added.
Tyler flipped through it, then quickly closed it and looked at her. “It’s fair to me, but unfair to you. You need no wedding gift, and if we divorce, you walk away with nothing. You mentioned you won’t interfere with my feelings, and if I find someone I love later, you will voluntarily step aside. You’re even willing to cooperate whenever I want to sleep with you? Eleanor, we’re getting married, not making a deal where you’re selling yourself to me.”
“Tyler, are you not happy with it?” Eleanor said in a soft voice. “But… getting married was never something I wanted, not really. If you don’t accept, I’d feel guilty.”
Tyler sighed lightly. “First of all, this is my choice. Secondly, if anyone’s losing out, it’s you. Finally, since we’re getting married, we won’t be getting divorced. So, this agreement? No need to sign it.”
As he spoke, Tyler casually tossed the agreement onto the table. “Let’s go.”
Eleanor shook her head, picking up the agreement again. “Tyler, if you don’t like it, we can talk. But the agreement has to be signed.”
“Why?” Tyler asked, his gaze sharpening. “Are you planning to get a divorce? Or do you think my mother would let me off the hook? If you insist that we’re signing this agreement, then wait here for a moment.”
A few minutes later, Eleanor received the modified agreement, stunned. The wedding gift was now a must–three hundred thousand dollars in total. The title deed for their villa would include her name. If the divorce was due to Tyler’s fault, she’d receive all of his assets. There would be marite!tations after the wedding, but the issue of children would follow her wishes Successfully unlocked!
Eleanor stared at the agreement in her hands and then at Tyler. This was… quite a lot.
“Tyler, let’s forget about the wedding gift. Think about it–if you give the money to my

family, it just doesn’t feel right. If you’re giving the money to me, then it’s not necessary to go through all this trouble,” said Eleanor. “Plus, for now, I don’t want to make our marriage public. We’ll wait until Chris marries the one he loves first.”
“Alright.” Tyler nodded. “Just sign it then. Seems like you agree, and we’re not just putting on a show.”
Eleanor’s hand trembled slightly as she held the pen, almost writing her name crookedly. How could she sense a hint of impatience in Tyler’s words?
“Tyler, um- Eleanor bit her lip, still not able to say what was on her mind. Quickly, she scribbled her name down. “Done.”
“Good.” Tyler wrote his name as well. “I’ll keep this agreement. Now, can we go?”
“Sure.” Eleanor followed him downstairs. “Where are we going?”
“To pick out the ring,” answered Tyler.
Eleanor wanted to tell him that they didn’t need to rush, but Tyler had already grabbed her and led her to the garage. Soon, they were driving to the commercial center.
Half an hour later, a 20–carat diamond ring sat on Eleanor’s left ring finger, while Tyler wore a simple platinum diamond ring on his. The sales clerk was all smiles, complimenting how perfect these rings were for the two of them.
In a good mood, Tyler bought even more gold accessories for Eleanor. “Do you need
anything else?” He asked.
“No, really, it’s fine,” Eleanor said. She wasn’t a fan of wearing gold or silver jewelry. But Serena, every birthday, would ask for a gold bangle and then show it off in front of her.
The more someone showed off, the more they lacked. Eleanor believed that Serena never seemed to get it.
Speaking of Serena, Eleanor wondered how things were going on her side.
“Mr. Langford, how’s Chris doing?” Eleanor asked.
Tyler took her hand. “Kara just went to the hospital. You know her temper–she made a scene in the hospital room.”
“Oh.” Eleanor mused, picturing the scene in her head. It must have been quite something. It was a pity she hadn’t seen it in person.
Just as Eleanor was about to pull her hand away from Tyler’s grip, she felt his hold tighten as he pulled her forward. “There’s a pretty fancy restaurant over there,” said Tyler. “I’m starving. Let’s eat something first.”
“Alright.” Eleanor agreed.
But soon in the restaurant, she was shocked to see Tyler ordered two well–done filet steaks.
She remembered when she used to go out with Chris, she’d get mocked for ordering

well–done steaks. Serena, too, would always say that raw steaks were the “right”
steaks.
She stared at Tyler, losing in her thoughts. Sensing her gaze, Tyler raised her head and asked, “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing.” Eleanor rested her chin in her hands, “For the first time, I’m realizing we actually have a lot in common.”
“Is that so?” Tyler smiled. “You’ll find that we have even more in common as time goes
on”
Eleanor only gave him a faint smile, thinking he was just trying to cheer her up.
“Where were we?” Tyler’s voice carried a hint of amusement. “Kara doesn’t like Serena. She’s picking on her terribly. Mrs. Donovan also went to the hospital, and Serena took. that opportunity to make a scene. I think Mrs. Donovan will find you soon. Kara’s also looking for you. One wants you to quit, the other wants you to stay.”
Eleanor rubbed her temples, a headache creeping in. She raised her hand and gently massaged her temples. “Wasn’t I clear enough last time? Tyler, what is it about me that Kara just won’t let go of?”
Tyler laughed. “You’re obviously great. It’s just that some people are clueless and blind, so they can’t see it. But now that things are like this, what are you going to do?”
“What can I do? Let them tear each other apart,” Eleanor said. “I’ll just disappear for a few days. It’s a perfect excuse to take a little vacation.”
“Hmm.” Tyler nodded. “I think that’s a good idea. Have you decided where to go? Do you want me to come with you?”
Eleanor shook her head. “No, I’m fine on my own.”
“I see,” Tyler sighed. “Looks like you still don’t consider me your husband. That’s kind of disappointing.”
