Chapter 18 There Was No Turning Back
The sudden voice made Eleanor’s heart skip a beat. She fumbled with her phone, and it slipped from her hand, landing on the floor.
“You weren’t on a call just now?” Eleanor asked, feeling a little guilty. She bent down to pick up her phone, but before she could, Tyler had already grabbed it. His gaze moved from the screen to her face.
“I’m not that familiar with the guy who sent the text, Eleanor quickly explained.
“Speaking of which, I’m not on your contact list yet,” said Tyler. “May I add your WhatsApp?”
Eleanor had no choice but handed him the phone. After fiddling with the phone for a moment, Tyler handed it back. “I just replied for you.”
Eleanor felt a bit uneasy and couldn’t bring herself to look Tyler in the eye. But she hadn’t done anything wrong, so why should she be afraid? She glanced at her phone. Tyler had added her as a friend, and his reply to Logan was: [I’m married.]
Eleanor nearly choked and coughed. “Is that it?”
“What else should I reply? Tyler shot back. “Being honest is the most effective way to solve things.”
Despite his reasoning, Eleanor couldn’t help but feel that no one would believe that response. Instead, they’d think it was just a way to brush things off.
“I already know Chris and Serena’s wedding date, Eleanor suddenly said. “I don’t want anyone know when I’ll be back. But when their big day comes, I’ll give them a big gift.”
Tyler stood there, his dark eyes fixed on Eleanor, His gaze, calm yet unwavering, had an oddly reassuring and determined feel to it. After a long pause, Tyler finally spoke. No matter what you do, I’ll support you.
Eleanor smiled. “Tyler, thank you,” she said.
Tyler’s heart skipped a beat when seeing her smile. He stepped forward and gently caressed her cheek.
Eleanor was about to step back, but then a voice in her head reminded her: ‘You’re married now. What are you afraid of?‘
She took a deep breath, and reached out to wrap her arms around Tyler. “Tyler,” she lowered her voice. “Honestly, marrying you hasn’t been so bad.”
All this time, Tyler had been so considerate of her, taking the effort to understand her likes and dislikes. Every time when they ordered food, he always made sure it was something she enjoyed. At first, Eleanor had thought it was just coincidence. It wasn’t until a chat with Verá that she learned Tyler had asked Vera in advance.
“He is so much better than Chris,” Vera had said. “He’s older than you, so he just knows

how to take care of people. You don’t like peanuts, but did Chris ever care? Before, you were like a servant, but now you get to enjoy being a young mistress.”
Tyler had obviously never expected Eleanor to suddenly hug him. He’d been careful these days, trying not to cross any lines, afraid that one wrong move would scare her
off.
“Tyler, for now, I don’t want to make our marriage public. Not just because of Chris, but because I’m afraid of what others might say about you.” Eleanor tugged at her hair, unsure of how to continue. “Anyway, when the time comes, you don’t need to explain anything. I’ll take care of it.”
As for how others saw her, she didn’t care. As long as people thought she was the one chasing after Tyler, she was fine with that.
Tyler furrowed his brow, looking at her closely. “Do you have the marriage certificate with you now?”
“Of course,” Eleanor replied. “What are you going to do?”
Tyler smiled. He took out the certificates, and placed them side by side to take at picture. He then posted the photo on his Instagram with a location tag–nothing else, just the photo.
Eleanor was stunned. “What are you doing?” she asked.
“The situation is, I’m married now, and it was you who propose to me. Tyler slowly answered. “Is that exciting enough?”
Eleanor rested her chin on her hand. “I’d say it’s quite thrilling,” she said, already starting to imagine the looks on Chris and Serena’s faces. “But aren’t you worried that I‘ m just using you? What if people say that about you? What would you do?”
“Don’t sweat the small stuff,” Tyler replied, his voice low. “It’s not what you think. Don’t feel the need to prove anything.”
“Sure,” Eleanor nodded. “Don’t worry. As long as you stay the same, so will I. As for -feelings, they can’t be rushed. But trust me, I’m not some kind of jerk like Chris.”
Tyler let out soft chuckles. “It sounds like you’re trying to comfort me.”
“Of course,” Eleanor said with a wink. “And to show my sincerity, if you ever meet someone you like, I’ll step aside willingly.”
As soon as the words left her mouth, she saw Tyler’s expression freeze. His gaze on her turned more serious. Eleanor felt confused. Had she said something wrong? But wasn’t she just trying to reassure him?
“I don’t think I made myself clear last time,” Tyler said, his voice firm. “Since we’re married, there’s no going back. Let’s not bring this up again.”
Tyler was clearly upset. Eleanor thought and nodded. “Okay.” She felt more certain than ever that he was a man who took responsibility. In this case, she would protect

his reputation no matter what.
Back at the Langford family, Tyler’s marriage announcement was undoubtedly a bombshell, shocking everyone.
Kara had been forced to accept the marriage between Chris and Serena after learning that Serena was pregnant with Chris’s child. Not only was she frustrated, but she had also been scolded harshly by Madam Langford, which left her seething with anger. But now? At least with Chris, she knew what he was dealing with. Tyler’s bride came completely out of nowhere.
At the dinner table, she couldn’t resist bringing the news up to Madam Langford. “It seems like Tyler doesn’t take you seriously anymore.”
Madam Langford didn’t even flinch. She gave Kara a cold look and replied, “I trust Tyler. When it comes to matters of marriage, he makes his own decisions. Whoever he chooses, I know will be a good match. Unlike some people, who mistake fool’s gold for treasure and toss away something precious without a second thought.”
Sir Langford, who always listened to his wife, had already given orders to keep Serena away from the family. This move had filled Chris with resentment.
Now, hearing grandmother’s words, Chris was even angrier. He remembered Serena was still trying to comfort him, even she was also upset. “It’s okay,” she told Chris.” When I marry you, we’ll really be family.”
Such a considerate girl–how could she be worse than Eleanor? Chris couldn’t understand.
“Mr. Tyler is back.” The maid came to report to Sir and Madam Langford.
Tyler stepped into the dining room just then, scanning the room with a raised eyebrow.
“What’s with the heavy atmosphere?” he asked.
“Welcome back, Tyler. Where’s your wife?” asked Madam Langford. “Why didn’t you bring her back?
“Oh,” Tyler said, a soft smile appeared on his face. “She’s a bit shy. I’ll bring her back in
a while.”
“You really got married?” Chris couldn’t help but ask. “You went to Willowtown, and so did Eleanor, right? Did you meet her there?”
The smile on Tyler’s face froze. “Chris, you’re still keeping tabs on Eleanor? Aren’t you about to marry her Serena?” he shot back. “Besides, from what I’ve heard, Eleanor’s cut ties with everyone. She’s gone off the radar. How am I supposed to see her even if I wanted to?” He paused for a beat, then added, gaze sharpened. “You made your choice. So what now? You’re regretting already?”
