Chapter 40 Warning
“Apologize?” Chris looked at Martha in confusion. “Did I offend her? Why should I apologize? Grandma, you can’t be so biased. Your favoritism will only make her act without restraint.
“I wanted to criticize her just now. As a guest, she took over the position that originally belonged to Madam Yvonne just to show off.”
“Shut up already.” Martha turned to Chris. “Do you think Eleanor is that impolite? I never thought you could be so foolish.”
“Martha, don’t get angry. People in love are all a bit silly,” Yvonne teased. “Chris, I asked
hear
Eleanor to demonstrate. Didn’t you me just now, or are you just unwilling to listen?
Or in your eyes, everything Eleanor does is wrong?”
Chris was speechless. After a while, he said, “You know that? In your eyes, everything Serena does is wrong. I shouldn’t have brought her here today. Grandma, I won’t
apologize. I didn’t do anything wrong.”
“You’re so stubborn,” Martha sighed.
“It’s okay,” Eleanor said casually. “Madam Langford, Chris and I have known each other since we were kids. I understand.” She nodded in agreement with Yvonne’s earlier words. “They really are a perfect match. Chris always thinks he’s right and never listens to others. Tyler is different.”
“Eleanor, we can’t afford to offend Tyler. I’ll apologize on behalf of Chris. But do you really like Tyler now?” Serena asked in surprise. “You used to like Chris so much, but you fell for another man so quickly.
“It’s not nice to say, but did you and Tyler get together long ago? Was Chris just a cover -up?”
Eleanor shook her head, thinking, ‘Serena is so naive. Does she think everyone here is inexperienced? These are all wise madams who won’t be easily manipulated. Besides, her comments in front of everyone are practically insulting the Langford family. Only Chris would be foolish enough to think Serena’s straightforwardness is a virtue.‘
“I don’t like to defend myself, Eleanor said slowly. “But birds of a feather flock together. What others see in you is actually a reflection of yourself.”
“No, you’ve misunderstood me.” Serena’s tears fell again..
“Are you a mermaid? Do your tears turn into pearls?” Eleanor remarked. “You’re always crying. I can’t stand it anymore. I us
successfully unlocked it, but today I really need to remind you.
“Tears are the cheapest things. Only some foolish men would worry about you just because you cry.”

“How dare you say that?” Chris glared at Eleanor angrily.
“There are many people here today, and I don’t want to embarrass you,” Eleanor said. Otherwise, you would have learned your lesson already. Do you remember what I did last time in the hospital? I don’t mind letting you experience it again.”
Chris clenched his fists and turned to Martha. “Grandma, see? She’s not as sweet as you think.”
“I like it,” Martha smiled. “She used to be so quiet. I was worried. Men don’t need to indulge women all the time. If you keep indulging her, she won’t know her place. Eleanor, you don’t have to do everything Tyler says.”
Eleanor nodded. “I understand.”
“Grandma, Eleanor is saying bad things about Serena, right?” Chris said. “If you spend more time with Serena, you’ll see she’s pure and kind.”
“Great, you’re right,” Eleanor said sarcastically. “Oh, Madam Langford, there’s something I think you should know. There’s really nothing between Tyler and me.
“Besides what I mentioned earlier, there’s another reason I married him. I wanted to repay him. Without him, I might still be in prison.”
“What?” Martha looked shocked. “What do you mean?”
Chris was furious. “Eleanor, shut up.”
Ignoring him, Eleanor pointed at Chris and said, “I just found out. Back then, Chris insisted I kidnapped Serena. If Tyler hadn’t stopped him, Chris would have sent me to jail. Madam Langford, I was really scared.
“If I had really married him, would he have been thinking about killing me all the time? Fortunately, I was lucky to find out about this. And I broke up with him.”
Martha had heard about the incident years ago, but she didn’t believe Eleanor would have kidnapped Serena.
And even if Eleanor had done something, the police would have investigated and found out. Chris’s suspicions were all baseless.
“Tyler helped me find evidence, but Chris wouldn’t believe it,” Eleanor sighed. “Forget it. He was just being foolish. I’ve already broken up with him.
“It has nothing to do with me. By the way, since he’s done so many bad things, I’m sure he’ll pay for them sooner or later.”
Chris stared straight at Eleanor. He had never realized how sharp–tongued she could be. ‘She was definitely prétending to be innocent all this time, just to make people around me feel sorry for her he thought to himself.
“You’re right,” Chris said coldly. “You’ve done so many bad things; you’ll pay for them eventually.”
Eleanor placed her finger on her chin thoughtfully. “You know what? People who do

too many wrong things will definitely pay the price, like choking on water.”
As soon as Eleanor finished speaking, Serena began coughing.
“Hey, I got it,” Eleanor laughed and said. “Serena, there’s one more thing. The fire that killed your dad was started by you. Your goal was to get rid of me.”
Serena’s face turned pale. “No, I didn’t. Don’t make things up.”
“Shut up.” Chris protectively held Serena close. “It was an accidental fire caused by your mischief. The police didn’t find anything back then.”
“Of course not,” Eleanor said with a slv s

“Because Dad was the one who closed
As Eleanor spoke, she calmly looked at Serena, a mysterious smile playing on her lips.
“My head is spinning. I need to leave,” Serena whispered, and suddenly she fainted into Chris’s arms.
“You fainted already? I wasn’t done yet. Serena’s mom was my dad’s first crush, which is why he doted on Serena,” Eleanor sighed. “But I’m sure Serena has no idea about this. Otherwise, she would have tried to seduce my dad long ago.”
Chris’s veins bulged on his forehead. “Shut up. Stop slandering her.”
Eleanor laughed instead of getting angry. “Right, you don’t believe it either. Neither did
- 1.
“So when Tyler told me, I thought that during the five years she was away, out of kindness, my dad should have taken care of her. It’s normal for a father and daughter to hug and even kiss.”
Chris stood there stunned, and after a while, he snapped back to reality. “Have you been stalking her all these years? You’ll do anything to slander her, won’t you?”
“I just remembered, I need to go home and check on things today. I wonder how Mom is doing,” Eleanor smiled at Chris. “Would you like to come with me?”
