Chapter 52 Angust’s Arrival
Serena glanced at Eleanor timidly. “Do I even have a choice?”
“There is one. You can confess and be lenient on yourself. You’re so smart; you must know what to do,” Eleanor said.
“Alright, I’ll speak,” Serena paused for a moment. “Eleanor, actually, Dad has always hated you and Mom. He thought you two killed my mother, his first crush.
“Back then, he planned to burn you alive and then let me naturally become the only daughter of the Donovan family.
“I was deceived by him into giving you a drugged drink. But Dad found out about it, and then you know what happened next.”
She added, “As for the kidnapping, do you think a girl like me has that kind of ability? When they failed, they took it out on me. They stripped me of my clothes, took my photos, and the photos are all with Dad.
“If I don’t listen to him, he’ll expose those photos: Eleanor, hurting you was really not
my intention.”
Eleanor was surprised. She had never suspected Richard, and she never thought he would want her dead. “Serena, do you have any evidence for what you’re saying?”
Serena shook her head. “No.”
“So, how do you prove that what you’re saying is true?” Eleanor said.
Serena lowered her eyes. “I can’t prove it.”
“So, you admit that it was you who framed me before?” Eleanor said.
Serena whispered, “I was forced. I really like Chris. The other things really weren’t intentional. I can’t prove it. But think about it. Without someone helping me, how much trouble could I really cause? I’ve already said this much; believe it or not is up to you.”
Eleanor glanced at Tyler, wanting to know what he thought.
Tyler met Eleanor’s gaze, thought for a moment, and said, “We really can’t just take your word for it. Unless you can do something to prove yourself.”
“I can make Dad admit that he arranged everything. Would that make you believe me?” Serena said. “If it weren’t for Dad’s threats, I really wanted to be good friends with
Eleanor.”
Eleanor sneered. “I don’t want to.”

“I’ll investigate the past,” Tyler said. “Chris is already married; it’s not appropriate for him to keep living at home.”
Chris looked sharply at Tyler, clenching his fists.
“Mrs. Eleanor, your package,” a maid said, holding out a cardboard box.
Eleanor took the box, glanced at the sender’s address, and was somewhat surprised, but her joy was unmistakable. “I’ll go back to my room first.”
Eleanor went back inside and opened the package. Inside was an exquisite box containing an emerald–green hairpin, a light green clutch embroidered with flowers, a pair of silk gloves with the same pattern, and a pair of handmade cloisonné earrings with a floral design,

Eleanor went to the living room and saw a new face in the house. He was dressed in suit of Mulberry Silk and wore a gentleman’s hat.
“Angust?” Eleanor called out uncertainly.
“It’s me. You still remember me.” Angust turned around, revealing a young and handsome face. “Eleanor, I’ve finished dealing with my family matters and came back to find you. But they said you returned for your wedding. I rushed over here without delay.”
Your
“Who is this?” Serena tilted her head slightly, surprised. “Eleanor, I’ve never heard your mention having such a young friend.”
Angust huffed. “Hmph, who are you? None of your business.”
Eleanor pulled Angust closer. “She’s the adopted daughter of the Donovan family and is now married. We used to be like sisters, but now I’m her aunt.”
“Oh? She’s married,” Angust said. “Who did she marry?”
“Him.” Eleanor pointed to Chris. “Didn’t they tell you when you arrived?”
“Even if they had, I wouldn’t remember,” Angust said. “So, what’s his name?”
“Chris,” Eleanor replied.
“Ah?” Angust was surprised, thinking to himself, ‘I remember that Eleanor’s fiancé is named Chris, right?” He continued, “So, Eleanor, are you married? What’s your husband‘ s name?”
Eleanor smiled. “Are you checking up on me? It’s a bit complicated. You’ll have to be patient and listen. For various reasons, I’m now married to Tyler.”
Angust became excited. “Eleanor, do you like me? I think he and I have something in
common.
