Chapter 62 Subtle Changes
Chapter 62 Subtle Changes
“Yes,” Tyler said. “Every word is true.”
“Indeed, in this world, there are no coincidences,” Eleanor murmured.
“Now that you know, can you refuse Angust’s offer?” Tyler stared at Eleanor, his voice deep. “I don’t like him. I can see that he likes you.”
“Tyler, if you trust me, you should be at ease,” Eleanor said.
“I’m not worried about you; I’m worried about him,” Tyler replied coldly.
“He won’t do anything rash,” Eleanor said. “Besides, I’ve been idle lately. Acting in a small production like this is a good way to pass the time.”
Tyler frowned but couldn’t withstand Eleanor’s pleading gaze and relented. “Fine, but you’re not allowed to have any physical contact with him.”
“No problem,” Eleanor smiled.
Back at the Langford mansion, they had just taken off their shoes in the foyer when they heard Serena’s voice from the living room. “Madam Langford, Eleanor is willingly degrading herself by becoming an actress.
“Aren’t you afraid she’ll tarnish the Langford family’s reputation? And she must still have feelings for Chris, which is why someone wrote that script for her.”
“Oh, and what do you suggest we do?” Martha asked.
“Madam Langford, you should have her divorce Tyler and cut off all ties with the Langford family. Otherwise, what if she sleeps with Tyler and then with Chris? How would that look?” Serena said.
Eleanor glanced at Tyler. “She wants me to divorce you.”
Tyler wrapped his arm around Eleanor. “Ignore her.”
“Tyler, why are you being so handsy?” Eleanor said. “Weren’t you more reserved before?”
Tyler’s cheeks turned a faint shade of red. “I’ve officially confessed, and you’ve accepted.” He felt much more at ease now and less restrained in showing affection.
Their good mood, however, was spoiled by the person inside who was spewing nonsense.
Tyler led Eleanor into the living room. “It’s not a good habit to gossip behind someone’s back.”
Serena was startled and turned to face Tyler, her voice low. “Tyler?”
Seeing Serena’s cautious demeanor, Tyler mocked her. “You were quite eloquent just now. Why aren’t you speaking up now?” “Tyler, I believe it’s inappropriate for Eleanor to be in the public eye. She should stay at home and take care of you. That’s what a woman should do. Her greatest contribution to the Langford family would be to bear a son,” Serena said. “Why specifically a boy?” Eleanor asked.
“A boy is smart enough to inherit the Langford family. I’m determined to have a son for Chris,” Serena said, glancing at Martha, expecting praise.
“The Langford family doesn’t favor boys over girls. Daughters can be just as capable of being heirs,” Martha said. “My greatest regret is that I don’t have a daughter.”
Serena was taken aback, but quickly recovered. “Madam Langford, you’re so progressive. Sorry for being narrow–minded.” “Eleanor, what was Serena saying about acting?” Martha asked. “Do you want to become an actress?”
“Just for fun,” Eleanor said. “Serena, didn’t you go as well? If you had been more ambitious, I wouldn’t have had the chance.”
“What happened?” Martha asked.
“Didn’t Serena tell you?” Eleanor said, surprised. “Actually, Serena was kind–hearted, wanting Chris to use money to promote her so she could reap the benefits. But she was too careless, not even willing to memorize her lines. Otherwise, she would have been the one acting in this play.”
“Is that so?” Martha looked at Serena. “Why didn’t you mention this?”
“I forgot. But Eleanor and I are different. If Eleanor acts, people will think there’s a problem with the Langford family, which is why they’d let her take on a job. But I’m different. I’m of lowly status, so it doesn’t matter,” said Senera
“People who know me won’t expose my identity,” Eleanor said. “Besides, even if someone finds out, they should praise me for being multi–talented. Hey, seriously, I’m good at dancing, painting, and martial arts. I don’t need a stunt double. “I can even ride horses. Speaking of which, isn’t there a riding stable in the west of the city? Let’s go check it out.” “Sure,” Tyler said. “But as far as I know, the area nearby is undergoing development, and the owner probably moved the

venue somewhere else. If you want to go, we can head over there tomorrow.”
“Eleanor, can I go too?” Serena asked timidly. “I don’t really have any friends besides you guys.”
“You can come,” Eleanor said. “But we’ll do our own thing. Don’t bother me.”
“Okay,” Serena whispered. “Eleanor, you should really think about the acting thing. I heard that Angust volunteered to play the male lead, and I’m afraid Tyler might get upset.”
Serena glanced at Tyler quickly before averting her gaze and putting on a worried expression.
“Why would he be upset?” Eleanor linked her arm with Tyler’s. “My husband said he fully supports me.”
Martha had been sitting there with her eyes half–closed, watching the scene unfold. Upon hearing Eleanor’s words, she suddenly widened her eyes.
Eleanor and Tyler used to seem like they were together in name only. But today, I feel like their relationship has taken a step forward, she thought to herself.
“Tyler, you should always be cautious,” Serena said. “No matter why you married Eleanor, she represents the Langford family’s reputation. Today at the hospital, you saw it.
“Angust has a special interest in her. Besides, I think that the script of his was written specifically for Eleanor. If he plays the male lead, everyone will know what he’s implying.”
“It’s fine. I trust that Eleanor won’t do anything inappropriate,” Tyler said. “Instead of trying so hard to stir up trouble here, you should go to Chris and have more children to fulfill your life’s purpose.”
“Enough of that. If you keep talking like that, she’s going to cry again,” Eleanor laughed. “Let’s plan our outing for tomorrow.” The two walked away, chatting and laughing, while Serena clenched her fists, her eyes filled with anger.
‘Why does Eleanor have such good luck? Although she seems to have lost something, she’s actually gained something much better, Serena thought to herself.
“Madam Langlord, I-” Serena tried to say something more.
Martha waved her hand. “Since you’ve married into the Langford family, don’t bring your old ways here. Besides, you should respect Eleanor.”
Serena clenched her fists but still lowered her eyes, reluctantly saying, “Alright, Madam Langlord, I understand.”
Eleanor went back inside and rummaged through her wardrobe. “For horse riding, it’s more convenient to wear pants. Serena is coming along. Tyler, what do you think she’s up to?”
“She’s definitely not up to any good. Be careful,” Tyler said, his gaze on Eleanor. “I didn’t say anything just now, but you should try to minimize your contact with Angust in the future.”
Eleanor felt this was making a mountain out of a molehill. “Got it.”
“Eleanor, are you there?” came a knock on the door.
