Chapter 63 Time To Act
Tyler was lounging on the bed, watching Eleanor, when he suddenly frowned at the sound from outside the door. “What’s she doing here?”
“Who knows?” Eleanor said, picking out a white top and black pants. “This will do.”
The knocking continued. “Eleanor, please open the door. I need to talk to you about Chris.”
Eleanor scoffed. Chris’s problems were none of her business.
“Maybe you should just open the door and see what she wants,” Tyler suggested. “It’s getting annoying.”
“Tell me about it,” Eleanor said. “Maybe we should just move back?”
Tyler chuckled. “No rush.”
Eleanor eyed Tyler, sensing he was up to something. But if he wasn’t sharing, she wouldn’t pry.
Serena’s voice came again, “Eleanor, please open the door.”
Soon, a male voice joined in, “Serena, come home with me.”
“I can’t. Chris, your stomach’s acting up again. I wanted to ask Eleanor about the herbal remedies, how to prepare them. But she won’t open the door.” Serena replied.
With that, Eleanor yanked open the door, frowning at the couple standing there. “If you’re sick, go to a doctor. I’m not a physician. What do you want from me?”
“Eleanor,” Serena pleaded, grabbing Eleanor’s hands. “Please, I just want to be a good wife.”
Eleanor frowned. “Go study up on your medical books, and you might figure it out.”
With that, Eleanor slammed the door shut.
“What’s with her attitude!” Chris grumbled. “She really thinks she’s something.”
“She’s your aunt,” Serena said softly. “Chris, do you think she’s doing this to get your attention?”
“Huh?”
“Deliberately holding back, so you have an excuse to come to her,” Serena bit her lip. “It’s all my fault. To make you jealous, she married your uncle and hired someone to write scripts about us. If she does anything to hurt Tyler, it’s all my fault.”
Serena’s tears started flowing again.
Chris was in a foul mood. During the dinner party, when asked why he hadn’t brought Serena, before he could answer, Logan chimed in sarcastically, “Probably too embarrassing. All she’s good for is spending money. Here, let me show you something funny.”
Logan tapped his phone, sending two videos to the group chat, and all guys began to laugh at Chris-
“Chris, this is who you’re with? The difference between her and Eleanor is insane!”
“Eleanor doesn’t look like she’s acting. It’s like she’s being herself!”
“Chris, I told you not to mess around too much. You won’t find another amazing woman like Eleanor anywhere. Love is blind, but to me, your current wife is a nobody.”
Hearing those words, Chris was beyond frustrated. Was Eleanor really that great? Why was everyone praising her now that they’d broken up? In a fit of anger, Chris downed a lot of drinks, and his stomach started hurting.
Once he got home, Chris felt the stomach pain getting worse.
“Chris, what’s wrong? Are you feeling sick again? What are we going to do?” Serena looked helpless, tears streaming down her face.
At that moment, Chris suddenly missed Eleanor. He remembered what Eleanor used to do when this happened. She’d bring him warm water, gently massage the tension points to ease his pain, and then brew some herbal remedy for him to drink. Traditional medicine relied on specific remedies for specific symptoms, treating the root cause. He didn’t believe in it; it seemed absurd that checking someone’s tongue or pulse could diagnose issues that advanced equipment couldn’t find. He’d already had an endoscopy, which showed nothing, just advice to eat a bland diet.
When Eleanor couldn’t convince him to see a traditional medicine practitioner, she started studying it herself, even making a show of checking his pulse and brewing concoctions. Back then, he thought she was just desperately trying to please him. But Chris had to admit, after Eleanor’s care, his stomach aches had become less frequent.
Now, hearing Serena’s sniffling just irritated him. For the first time, he thought, ‘All she does is cry. What good does crying do?‘
“Chris, what do we do? I’ll go get Eleanor,” Serena said tearfully.

But the door was shut in her face. Chris clutched his stomach, listening to Serena’s worried chatter, and that familiar annoyance surfaced again. He suddenly missed the times Eleanor would quietly take care of him without saying a word Suddenly, the door opened again.
Seeing Eleanor standing there, a flicker of hope sparked in Chris. He even thought, See? She can’t really let me go
“If you’re going to be dramatic, don’t do it outside my door, Eleanor snapped. And don’t badmouth people where I can hear you. Stomach ache? Take some painkillers, go to the hospital. Isn’t that obvious? Now get lost, stop loitering here.” “Eleanor, how can you be like this?” Serena whispered. “Chris is in so much pain.”
“He’ll be fine. It’ll probably pass in a few hours even if you do nothing,” Eleanor retorted. “Besides, if he’s suffering, why don‘ 1 you ask him what he did to bring this on? If he doesn’t care about himself, why should anyone else?”
“You do still care about me, don’t you?” Chris stared at Eleanor. “That script… you had it written deliberately for me to see, didn’t you?”
“Are you crazy?” Eleanor shot back. “I didn’t even know that script existed until today. Believe it or not, that’s the truth. And I lost those old herbal remedies, my memory’s shot, I can’t remember the ingredients anyway. I’m not a doctor. Please stop coming to me with this stuff. Now, get away from my door.”
“Eleanor, you’re so cruel, Serena said, looking horrified. “You can’t use this to get Chris’s attention. Or… or did you put something in those herbal broths you used to give him? Something that worked then, but now that he’s stopped…”
“You have quite an imagination,” Eleanor scoffed. “What do you think this is, some fantasy novel or a voodoo curse? If you‘ re sick, go to a hospital! Tyler, aren’t you going to do something? There are people causing trouble right outside your door!” Footsteps approached. Tyler walked over, his cold gaze sweeping over Chris and Serena.
He didn’t say a word, but his icy stare was intimidating enough.
“Get out, Tyler said coldly, his face dark.
Chris didn’t dare say another word and quickly pulled Serena away.
Eleanor crossed her arms. “See? You’re much more effective. No wasted words, straight to the point.”
“Next time, actions speak louder than words, Tyler said. “If they annoy you, deal with them directly. You’re their elder now; teaching them a lesson is perfectly reasonable.”
Eleanor nodded. “Good point. I need to step out for a bit.”
