Chapter 96
Brooke rolled her eyes as she handed Caroline her present next. The two of us watched Caroline’s face morph into one of surprise. Brooke had gotten her a photo album with just pictures of the three of us from over the years, as well as a Pandora Charm’s bracelet equip with a bunch of different
charms.
As Caroline flipped through the photo album, we eyes began to well up with tears. “This is really cute!” She said holding up a picture of the three of us during the summer of Sophomore year at the
beach. “We were still babies here!”
Next, it was Brooke’s turn to open her presents. She picked up Caroline’s neatly wrapped box and started tearing the wrapping paper off. Inside was a pair of Beats noise canceling headphones, Ferrero Roche chocolate, and silver studded earrings. Choosing to ignore everything else, Brook immediately went for the chocolate. I don’t think anyone will ever be as excited about chocolate, as
Brooke it.
When it was my turn, I handed Brooke a Merry Christmas gift bag. I may or may not have gotten lazy halfway through my gift wrapping.
Inside was a silver infinity coiler necklace from Pandora, a portable Bluetooth speaker, and a heated blanket. Out of the three of us, Brooke is definitely the least girly, so it was challenge shopping for her but the huge smile on her face told me that I nailed it.
While I fully admit to being Christmas obsessed, it has nothing to do with the receiving presents aspect of it. Instead, I much rather enjoyed seeing others open what I got them.
“Now that that’s out of the way,” I turn towards Caroline. “How’s Lucas?”
“Why are you asking me?” She asked as she began to fumble with the torn wrapping paper on the floor. “You have his number, ask him yourself.”
“Because I’m not stupid!” I smirked at her. “Spill the tea – I’ve been patient enough.”
“Did you tell her?” Caroline shot Brooke an accusatory glare.
“I didn’t have to.” Brooke laughed. “You two weren’t exactly subtle when we went ice skating.”
“Well,” I pushed. “I want details, so chop–chop!”

The next morning, I woke up earlier than usual. Glancing at my phone, it was a little over 7am. With it being Christmas day, I decided to get up rather than continue sleeping in. I was actually really excited for Mom to open her present, and to finally meet Anthony.
When I walked out of my room, I still had on my red Santa Baby pajamas. Now before you let your imagination run wild, my pajamas were anything but sexy – in fact, they were about two sizes too
big and I looked like an Oompa Loompa in them, but who cares because the comfort is all that
matters.
I found mom in the kitchen putting coffee in the coffee maker, a huge smile on her face. “Merry
Christmas, baby.”
“Merry Christmas, mom.” I replied giving her a hug. I’m so lucky to have her as my mom.
As the two of us sat around dinking our coffee and listening to Christmas music, we decided to open
presents.
We had decorated right after Thanksgiving this year, and our Douglas fir was still standing. Every year, on Black Friday, we drive to Home Depot and pick out a real tree that we bring home. Over the years, mom has compiled an impressively large amount of decorations, and each year we aim to do something different. This time, we decided on a red and gold theme.
The tree stood tall in the corner of our living room, bright lights twinkling numerous times per
minute. The large golden bows and red globes complementing each other, and catching your
attention ever time you walked past.
They don’t call me Christmas Scarlett on speed for no reason.
I sat giddily on the floor in front of the Christmas tree and waited for mom to open her present.
“Honey, this is too much.” She began protesting when she opened the box. I had gotten her a black purse to replace the current ones she used for work.
“Hush,” I waved her off. “Look inside the purse!”
“I don’t know what I did to deserve you.” She smiled brightly.
I shrugged, satisfied with myself. On top of the purse, I had also gotten her a gift certificate for a spa treatment because she definitely deserved it. I had some money saved up from my time as a cashier during the summer, so I decided to go all out with presents this year. It wasn’t the most luxurious

job, but at the end of the day money is still money.
As I was munching on a poptart, mom quickly excused herself and came back holding something behind her back. “Aiden dropped this off.”
I couldn’t help but question the smirk on her face and glint in her eyes. I quickly set my poptart
down and snatched the box from her hands.
I gasped as I opened the box mom handed me. Inside lay two Tiffany’s blue boxes neatly wrapped
with a white bow. Inside the first box lay a pair of silver Solitaire Diamon Earrings, while the second
contained a matching silver necklace.
On Friday, Aiden told me he was spending the holidays in Aspen with his family, so when did he
have time to drop this off? Mom must have seen the confused look on my face because she said, “He
stopped by last week when you were over at Brooke’s.”
