Chapter 69 Quite The Grand Gesture
“Eleanor, look at him He’s just trying to keep tabs on you, Angust said, looking directly at Eleanor “Why else wouldn’t he
want me playing the lead? 11e’s afraid of us spending time together. He so petty Eleanor, you need to watch out. He might get abusive after you’re married”
Tyler stated coldly, “That’s a baseless accusation”
“Oh really? Am I wrong? Angust shot back, clearly angry Ask yourself, honestly didn’t take my role partly for your own selfish reasons?”
“And you don’t have any ulterior motives? Tyler countered.
“Alright, stop fighting, both of you,” Eleanor interrupted. Honestly, the main reason I took this role is because Serena wanted it. I’m not going to let her win.”
“Eleanor, I get why you feel thatway, but you can’t say stuff like that in public, Angust warmed. “People will twist your words.”
Tyler scoffed. “Why not? Didn’t you say before that everyone looks out for number one? If you’re going to be selfish, don’t worry about what others think. Just do you.”
“Is it the same thing?” Angust retorted. “Why do you think Serena wants to be an influencer? Does she need the money? of course not. It’s about getting followers she can sic on Eleanor. Plain and simple, it’s cyberbullying”
“So what?” Tyler asked. “As it happens, we’ve got some sharp guys in our tech department. Finding out who’s causing trouble online isn’t exactly rocket science. And our legal team has some pretty good people too.”
“Easy for you to say,” Angust said, turning to Eleanor. “Eleanor, don’t listen to his nonsense. Those online mobs can get really nasty when they go crazy.”
“It’s fine,” Eleanor said calmly. “They’re just strangers online. What’s so scary about that?”
“Eleanor, you probably don’t know this, but the director told me something about Serena, Angust said. “He said she didn’t care about the pay, only about whether the role would make her famous and how many followers she could get. What’s really creepy is that she even asked about someone who killed themselves because of online hate.”
“Is that so?” Eleanor smiled faintly. “Well, if that’s what she’s planning, maybe she should get a taste of her own medicine.”
“Eleanor, I know you’re tough, but some things aren’t what they seem.” Angust sighed,
“You don’t know her very well. She’s not that fragile,” Tyler said firmly. “Unlike you, I’ve known her since she was a kid.” “Known her since she was a kid? And you still went after her? That’s messed up, Tyler. Seriously twisted.”
Tyler clenched his fists, his expression darkening.
“Eleanor, Eleanor,” Angust feigned fear. “You really need to watch out for domestic violence with this guy.”
“Are you two always like this?” Eleanor sighed, rubbing her temples. “Look, the message is delivered. We’re leaving.” “One more thing,” Tyler said, a slight smile playing on his lips. “Eleanor and I are getting married this weekend. The ceremony’s up on Mount Seraphina out west. Hope you can make it.”
“You’re getting married at a scenic viewpoint?” Angust’s eyes narrowed. It was a blatant show of wealth and influence. ‘Big deal, Angust thought. ‘I could pull that off too.”
“Yes. I know some people at the tourism board. It helps promote the area, so it’s mutually beneficial. Why not?” Tyler explained smoothly.
“Fine,” Angust replied with a humorless smile. “I’ll definitely be there to witness it.”
Eleanor looked at Tyler, hesitant to speak. Once they were out of the room, she tugged at his sleeve. “Did you really have to go this big?”
“Yeah,” Tyler replied. “A hotel wouldn’t have the same impact as the mountain. Up there, our wedding will get a lot more attention, more publicity.” He added, “We’re a perfect match, after all. Since we’re using a historic site, I’ll need to make a respectful donation in a few days.”
“Okay,” Eleanor acknowledged.
“I checked the forecast for this weekend; looks like good weather,” Tyler continued. “The officiant suggested a few rehearsals, but that sounded exhausting, so I skipped it. I’ll walk you through the schedule later. I know you’ll handle it perfectly.”
Eleanor nodded. “Tyler, this whole thing… it’s making me a little nervous.”
Tyler gently ruffled her hair. “It’s your wedding. Nothing to be nervous about.”
The Langford family had mixed reactions when they heard the news.
Grandma Langford beamed. “Wonderful! As long as you two are happy.”

Kara chimed in, her tone dripping with sarcasm, “Well, aren’t you generous, Tyler Back in the day youre probably mous mountains just to impress a girl.”
Serena said nothing, just clenched her fists, the jealousy clear on her fare
Chris spoke up, “Is this really a good idea? There’s no hotel up there Are people just supposed to watch the ceremony and leave? Who’d be in the mood for that?”
“What’s the big deal?” Grandma Langford countered. “You kids raised in the city haven’t seen big outdoor feasts, have you? You just set up kitchens outside and hire caterers‘
“Exactly, Tyler agreed. “That’s what I figured I’ll have at the food and supplies delivered up the mountain ahead of ome
“That must cost a fortune, Kara muttered, nudging Caden Look at him, then look at you Already short on cash, and then you lost-
Caden shot Kara a harsh glare. Realizing her mistake, Kara quickly shut her mouth, tried to look nonchalant, and picked up a glass of water. “Tyler, dear, being too flashy isn’t always a good thing”
“Kara, you misunderstand, Tyler explained smoothly. “Parts of the Mount Seraphina site needed renovations, and won the contract for it. The head of the tourism board was very pleased during his inspection. We were discussing toursen development when this wedding idea came up. He actually supports it.”
“Oh, you know people that high up?” Kara’s smile looked forced. “Well, maybe we were overthinking it. Eleanor Gear, you should get plenty of rest these next few days. For those of us without careers, our status really depends on our husbands, doesn’t it?”
“Actually, Kara, I do have a career. Didn’t you know?” Eleanor replied. “I started my own business back in college” Kara was clearly taken aback. After a moment, she managed, “Well, aren’t you impressive, Eleanor
“Wait a second,” Serena interjected, looking puzzled. “I don’t remember you having your own business in college, Eleanor Mrs. Donovan didn’t have you running her company. After graduation, you stayed in Silverridge and didn’t want to come back. Your mom said you just found it comfortable there, living off the family money and enjoying yourself. Eleanor, you shouldn’t lie. If you really were working, why didn’t you tell the family? Was it something… shady?”
