Chapter 83 You Can Always Come To Me
Eleanor was stumped by the question. She thought for a moment, then said, “We’re only human–how could we not have feelings?”
“So you do like him,” Lila said. “Good. Now I know exactly what I need to do next.”

Eleanor and Lila made their way back to their seats, only to find the vibe had gotten a little weird. Tyler and Angust were locked in a stare–down, and more than half the booze in front of them was already gone.
“What are you two up to?” Eleanor asked.
The moment he saw Eleanor, Angust started whining, “Eleanor, he’s picking on me. We played a drinking game and he didn‘ t let me win. He kept making me drink just to see me make a fool of myself.”
Tyler straightened his jacket and leaned back in his chair, a mocking look flashing across his face. “You lost, so deal with it.” “Eleanor.” Angust jumped up, about to throw himself at her, but Lila grabbed him by the ear before he could.
“Angust, how can you be such a shameless homewrecker?” said Lila.
Angust shivered and stared at Lila. “What?”
Lila gave him a hard shove, pushing him back into his seat. “You’re engaged to me, but all you want to do is run away. Eleanor’s already married to Tyler, and you’re still trying to mess up their marriage.
“To me, you’re a shameless jerk. To Eleanor, you’re a homewrecker. You heard me?”
“Boy.” Angust stared at Lila, stunned. “You two were only gone for a few minutes, and now you’re suddenly so close?” He turned to Eleanor. “Eleanor, you better watch out. She’s petty and a great actress–you could get played by her before you know it.”
“What the hell is wrong with you?” Lila snapped, clearly pissed. “Just because I like you, that makes me petty?”
“Yeah,” Angust said. “I only found out recently. Back in high school, there was a girl who liked me. You pulled some strings to get her transferred, and even got her parents fired from their jobs.
“On their way back to their hometown, they got into a car accident. I don’t have any proof, but I can’t help but think you had something to do with it. Both her parents died, and she was the only one who survived.”
Lila’s face changed, her eyes dropping as she spoke in a low voice, “So that’s why you hate me?”
“Yeah. The way you’ll do anything to get what you want–it scares me,” Angust said.
A burst of laughter suddenly broke the tension.
“Eleanor, what’s so funny?” Angust asked. “You think I’m wrong?”
“I’m not laughing at you. I’m laughing at myself,” Eleanor said. “It just made me think of something I did.” She turned to Tyler. “Tyler, do you remember when I asked you to help me get rid of Serena?”
Tyler nodded. “Yeah.”
Eleanor continued, “Angust, I did the same thing once. Back then I thought… if Serena was gone, maybe Chris would love me again.”
Angust hesitated for a long moment before saying, “That’s different. You had proof, Eleanor. But Lila was just guessing- hell, I didn’t even know anyone liked me. And that girl was her best friend. I can’t stand women who are that cold–hearted.”
“Angust.” Lila exploded, slapping him hard across the face. “Yeah, I’ve got a temper, and I’m not about to let you walk all over me. Why do you just believe what other people say? Why don’t you ever ask me?
“How do you know I didn’t have proof? Do you have any idea what it felt like to realize the person I was protecting wanted to climb her way up? Angust, you jerk.”
Angust froze after getting slapped and yelled at by Lila.
Eleanor propped her chin on her hand, watching the two in front of her. “She’s got more guts than I do. Why didn’t I ever slap Chris?”
“So, it seems…” Tyler said, “Angust and Chris are basically the same type of guy.”
“Shut up. Don’t talk nonsense.” Angust’s face ture
hat at all. I’ve only ever liked Eleanor, and I’ve Successfully unlocked! never been involved with anyone else. Besides, Eleanor dues even like me. He hung his head, looking a little hurt. But Eleanor noticed he was secretly grinning, and heard him mutter under his breath, “Just break up with me already.” “Lila, I feel like we really get along. Why don’t you come to my wedding this weekend?” Eleanor said. “Angust’s been living here for a while–he can show you around. Just to be clear, it’s a small city, not as fancy as the capital.”

“Eleanor, you haven’t had your wedding yet? Perfect, I’ll bring you a gift,” Lila replied, “You know, you’re right–men are only the seasoning in life.”
She then said to Angust, “Angust, you have to marry me. That way, my family will finally stop trying to set me up with someone else. If it’s you, we can split everything fifty–fifty after we get married. With anyone else, it’d be a nightmare.”
Angust stared at Lila. “Wait, what did you just say?”
“Count your blessings,” Lila said with a scowl. “Everything that happened back then–except for the car accident–was all my doing. If you want to know why, go figure it out yourself.”
Angust suddenly switched gears. “Hey, Eleanor, are we still catching that movie or what?”
Eleanor shook her head. “No, that’s not why I came. I just wanted to make it clear–there’s no way anything could ever happen between us.”
A flash of disappointment crossed Angust’s face, but he quickly joked, “So, if I’d proposed before Tyler did, would you have said yes?”
“Not a chance,” Eleanor replied without missing a beat.
Angust laughed. “Got it. I’m a hot commodity in the capital, but to you, I’m just yesterday’s news. But hey, if Tyler ever treats you wrong, you know where to find me.”
Eleanor smiled. “He won’t.”
“Alright, that’s enough.” Lila grabbed Angust by the ear. “Until I forgive you, we’re splitting the bill. And don’t even think about messing with someone else’s marriage.”
“Jeez, woman, do you have to be so rough? Don’t embarrass me like this in public.” Angust yelped.
Lila said, “Pretty sure nothing I do could ever be more embarrassing than the crap you pull yourself.”
All of a sudden, both Angust and Lila’s phones started ringing at the same time. Lila glanced at her screen–it was her assistant calling.
She answered, and her assistant said, “Ms. Vance, there are some rumors about you online. Do you want me to handle it?”
“Rumors about me?” Lila was puzzled. Angust had already hung up and was now looking at Lila, his brows tightly knit. Lila had a bad feeling. “Give me a second. Let me check and I’ll get back to you.”
She clicked the link her assistant sent. There were photos of her in Westbridge, with people claiming she was there to catch someone cheating on her.
Someone claiming to be her superfan posted that the fan club would be watching closely and wouldn’t let anything happen to Lila. Lila frowned. “That’s not something I did.”
Angust let out a cold snort.
Eleanor lowered her gaze, thinking for a moment. “I’ll handle this myself. You two don’t need to say anything for now. I want to see what she does next.”
“You know who’s behind this?” Lila asked.
“Of course I do.” Eleanor let out a cold laugh. “If I’m right, the one pulling the strings is Serena.”
