Chapter 89 Chris Finds Out The Truth
Chapter 89 Chris Finds Out The Truth
Seeing that Serena looked like she was about to pass out, Eleanor said, “Serena, are you feeling okay?
“I just learned some chiropractic care and I’ve been dying to practice on someone. How about you let me try it out on you? Don’t worry, it won’t hurt at all.”
Tyler said, “Go grab your tools. It’ll take a bit for them to pull up the footage and send it over anyway.”
“Alright.” Eleanor nodded.
Suddenly, Serena said, “No, that’s okay. I’m actually feeling a lot better now.”
Serena felt a wave of anxiety. Everything had been going according to plan–until now. Once again, she glanced at Chris, but as usual, he didn’t lift a finger to defend her.
The surveillance footage was sent over in no time. On the screen, Serena and Lila were seen talking about something. Serena let out a quiet sigh of relief. Thankfully, it was just video–no audio. Nobody could tell what she’d actually said.
“I just like Lila’s acting, so I went to see my idol. Is that not allowed?” Serena muttered under her breath.
“Oh, I almost forgot–I always carry a recorder with me,” Lila suddenly said. “You know how some entertainment reporters love to twist things. To protect myself, I have to record everything.
“That time you came to see me, I thought you were a reporter, so I hit record out of habit.”
When Lila pulled out a recorder, Serena’s face went even paler.
“Want to give it a listen?” said Lila.
Just as Lila was about to press play, Serena shot up from her seat. “No.”
Lila raised an eyebrow. “Why are you freaking out? It’s just your own words. What, you don’t want them to hear it?”
Tears welled up in Serena’s eyes. “Yes, I went to you. I did say bad things about Eleanor… because I like Chris.
“I was scared Eleanor married Tyler just to get close to Chris. So I wanted your help to drive her away, to make her and Tyler 1 split up.”
Lila pointed at herself and laughed. “Me? You think I have that kind of power?”
Serena lowered her eyes.
Lila shrugged. “Well, maybe everyone should hear it for themselves.”
“No, I’ll say it,” Serena whispered. “After Eleanor married Tyler, she still couldn’t settle down–she even flirted with Angust. I was afraid you’d end up feeling just as insecure as me, so that’s why I came to you.”
“Oh, so when I wouldn’t help you, you went to those so–called superfans and tried to use them to do your dirty work?”
“It wasn’t me.” Serena shook her head. “I just wanted to use your influence to stir things up, but you said no, so I dropped it. Maybe that fan is just way too obsessed with you.”
“Hold on, did you just say ‘as insecure as you‘?” Lila scoffed. “How could you even compare us? Isn’t that an insult? Angust and I grew up together–we’ve been engaged since we were kids. Can you say the same?”
Serena didn’t know what to say, just muttering softly. “It wasn’t me.”
“Serena, I’m giving you one last chance.” Tyler’s voice was ice–cold. “Anyone who does something leaves a trace. Are you willing to hand over your phone so we can check it?”
Serena shook her head. “That’s my personal privacy, Tyler. You can’t do that.”
“Then let’s call the police,” Tyler said. “Spreading rumors is defamation. The police will take it seriously.”
“Tyler, I didn’t do it,” Serena said, sounding hurt.
“Hand over your phone.” Chris suddenly demanded.
Serena stared at Chris in disbelief. “Chris, you don’t trust me either?”
Chris’s face was dark. “Give it here.”
With trembling hands, Serena took out her phone and handed it to Tyler. “The password is 5263.” Eleanor watched Serena closely. Even though she looked scared, there was a faint smirk at the corner of her lips.‘ Something’s off–there’s no way we’ll find anything on that phone thought Fleanor.
Tyler scrolled through the call logs and messa
Successfully unlocked! Back to Serena.
“Tyler, you didn’t find anything, did you?” Serena said. “I don’t expect you guys to apologize anyway.”
“Not finding anything doesn’t prove anything,” Tyler replied. “Once we find this superfan, everything will be clear.”
Chris spoke up, “That’s enough, Tyler. Let’s drop it here.” He then said to Lila, “Lila, I hope you’ll clear things up publicly.”

With that, Chris pulled Serena to her feet. “Let’s head back to our room.”
Serena finally let out a sigh of relief, thinking, ‘At least for now, Chris is still on my side!
Chris slammed the door shut as soon as they got back to the room, fixing Serena with a hard stare. “Where’s the other phone?”
Serena looked at him, all wide–eyed innocence. “Chris, what are you talking about?”
Chris didn’t back down. “I know you have two phones.”
Serena threw her arms around him, tears streaming down her face. “What are you even accusing me of? Don’t you trust me? Yeah, I went to see Lila, but how would I even know her fans?”
Seeing Serena crying like that, Chris’s heart softened. “I’m not saying I don’t trust you. It’s just-
“You’re still into Eleanor, aren’t you?” Serena shouted, “She’s your uncle’s wife now. How could you still have feelings for her?” “I’m not.” Chris frowned. “Why did you bring up what happened back then? Didn’t you say we had to keep it from her, that she couldn’t handle it?”
“I–I didn’t mean to,” Serena whispered. “I just thought, guys always care about stuff like that. If Tyler found out, maybe he’d divorce her. Chris, I’m really scared. I’m afraid she married Tyler because of you.”
Chris stared at Serena, and for the first time, doubt crept into his heart.
“Chris, I swear I’m telling the truth. I’m just scared of losing you. Everything I’ve done, it’s all for you.” Serena’s voice was barely audible.
“That’s enough. Don’t let it happen again. Tyler isn’t someone you want to mess with.” Chris rubbed his forehead. “I’ll get you a glass of water.”
Chris stepped out for a bit and came back with a glass of lemon water, handing it to Serena. “You’ve always liked this.” “Thanks,” Serena said with a smile. After finishing the drink, Serena felt her head start to spín.
“What’s wrong? Feeling sleepy? Why don’t you lie down for a bit?” Chris asked. He watched as Serena slowly slumped into his arms. He couldn’t even explain to himself why he felt compelled to knock her out–he just needed to know her secrets.
Chris knew Serena had two phones; he’d stumbled across the second one a few days ago. She’d told him it was just for watching shows.
Once Serena was settled, Chris searched around for a moment and, sure enough, found the other phone. He frowned at the lock screen, then used Serena’s finger to unlock it.
As he scrolled through the phone, Chris’s expression grew more and more serious. All the chats between Serena and that superfan were on this phone, and to keep it hidden, she’d even used a brand new WhatsApp account.
Chris snapped photos of everything with his own phone, put Serena’s other phone back where he found it, glanced at Serena sleeping on the bed, and walked out.
