Chapter 85 Sowing Discord Doesn’t Work On Tyler
Tyler glanced at Eleanor. “Why do you ask?”
“I just get this feeling you do,” Eleanor replied. “The way you looked at Angust… I don’t know, I just think you know who that guy is. And this card–I’m pretty sure you know what it is. What does it mean?”
Tyler chuckled. “You really pay attention. I’m just guessing the guy she mentioned might be someone I’ve met before. As for the card–you ever heard of the CBU Chamber of Commerce?”
Eleanor nodded. “Yeah, I’ve heard of it. People say it’s super powerful, like it controls the whole country’s economy. That sounds a bit over the top, though–if it were true, there’s no way it’d be allowed to just do whatever.
“But it is really mysterious. I heard there aren’t many members, and the founder is basically a ghost. So, this card is connected to them?”
“Yeah. This is a membership card. It gets you VIP treatment in any mall, Tyler explained.
“How do you know that?” Eleanor asked, curious. “Have you met anyone from the Chamber?”
A flicker of something unreadable flashed in Tyler’s eyes. “I’ve just heard things.”
Eleanor didn’t push. She thought, ‘Tyler’s been running the Langford Corporation for years–it makes sense he’d know stuff! “For a group that powerful to keep operating quietly, whoever’s running it must be really capable–and have some serious connections,” Tyler said. “If the guy Lila mentioned is part of it, he’s definitely not just some regular guy. Don’t you think that‘ s interesting?”
“So you mean…” Eleanor started to get it. “But honestly, I think Angust is great too.”
“People get stuck in their ways,” Tyler said. “Once someone’s mindset is set, it’s hard to change. Just look at Chris–he’s the perfect example.”
Eleanor nodded. “Yeah, I get it.”
“Alright.” Tyler pulled Eleanor into his arms. “Getting involved in other people’s drama never ends well. As long as they don’t bother you, let them do whatever. Right now, we’ve still got our own problems to deal with.”
Eleanor frowned. “You mean the rumors Serena’s been spreading? Without proof, she’ll never admit it.”
“There’s always some kind of evidence,” Tyler said with a cold smile. “Leave this to me.”
“Okay.” Eleanor smiled. “It really is nice not having to worry about everything myself.”
When Eleanor got home, sure enough, she found Serena sitting in the living room. “Eleanor, you’re finally back,” Serena hurried over, looking worried. “You need to go talk to Chris. He’s been standing there forever. No matter what we say, he won’t take a break.”
Eleanor replied with a lazy shrug, “Wow, so obedient, huh? Who’s he putting on this show for? He can enjoy it all he wants.” Serena lowered her voice. “Eleanor, you used to like him, didn’t you? How can you just stand by? Honestly, you and Tyler have been secretly together for a while now, haven’t you?”
Eleanor just smiled, walked right up to Serena, and grabbed her chin. “Who do you think you are, talking to me like that? You’re disgusting–don’t assume everyone else is as filthy as you are.”
“That’s not it.” Serena clenched her fists, took a deep breath, and looked at Tyler. “Tyler, the reason Chris can’t stand Eleanor isn’t just because of me. He told me himself–he doesn’t want a woman who’s already been with someone else.”
“Oh?” Tyler raised an eyebrow, clearly intrigued as he looked at Serena.
“Not many people know about this,” Serena went on. “It was Eleanor’s college roommate who told me–she’s friends with someone Eleanor knew in high school.
“There was one night Eleanor didn’t come back to the dorm, and the next morning, someone saw her leaving a bar. I mean, it’s pretty obvious what people would think happened, right?”
Eleanor shot Serena a sharp look. Hardly anyone knew about that night–she’d only gotten caught up in it by accident. If her roommate hadn’t texted her for help, she never would have gone to that bar.
Not long after, that roommate got expelled for breaking school rules. She was from a rural family, and it had taken a lot for them to send her to college. Eleanor heard her Successfully unlocked!
That night, after taking a drink for her roommate, Licanii
wenzzy. She couldn’t remember much of what
happened after, but thankfully, she knew some self–defense and barely managed to get away.
She ended up running into someone–she remembered biting and scratching at him in a panic, but the guy was a total gentleman. He just dumped her in the bathtub and left her there.

When she woke up the next morning, she was alone in the room. There was nothing strange about her body, and a brand- new set of clothes was waiting by the bed.
She hadn’t lost anything–except someone had seen her naked. The bathrobe she was wearing was proof enough. Eleanor hadn’t told a soul about this. ‘So how did Serena find out? Eleanor thought.
Eleanor narrowed her eyes. “So it was you again? You’re the one who set me up, weren’t you?”
A flicker of panic flashed across Serena’s face, but she quickly regained her composure. “No, I just heard it from someone. Remember Catherine? Her friend was your roommate, and I ran into Catherine by dance. She mentioned it like it was no big deal.
“Thing is, she didn’t seem to know you were from the Donovan family, so she just ran her mouth. I never understood why you always had to pretend, even now.”
“What’s that got to do with you?” Eleanor shot back.
Serena lowered her gaze. “It’s none of my business, but… Eleanor, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have brought it up.”
Eleanor smiled. “But still, you brought it up. You did it on purpose.”
“I’m sorry.” Serena looked at Tyler. “Tyler, if you end up divorcing Eleanor over this, I’ll feel terrible.”
Serena’s lips curled into a sly smile. She’d made a vow to take everything from Eleanor–her family, her lover, everything she held dear. Serena wanted to see her utterly ruined, abandoned by everyone she cared about.
Everything had been going exactly as she planned, but now things were starting to slip out of her control. She didn’t dare mess with Tyler, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t get him to divorce Eleanor.
It was a stroke of luck running into Catherine–she’d reminded Serena of this perfect opportunity. If Eleanor ended up divorced and caught in a scandal, Linda would definitely turn her back on Eleanor all over again. The thought made Serena’ s smile grow even wider.
“I see.” Tyler’s voice was low and deep. Serena was secretly pleased, but then Tyler added, “I’ll have someone look into it. I want to know exactly who messed with Eleanor. I don’t care how long ago it was–they’re not getting away with it.” Serena’s heart dropped. ‘Any regular guy would’ve flipped out hearing that, she thought. ‘Why’s Tyler staying so calm? Is it just for the sake of his image?‘ Serena shot Eleanor a look, her jealousy and hatred plain as day.
Suddenly, a glass came crashing down right next to Serena’s feet. The sound of it shattering against the floor startled her hard. Tyler’s voice was low and commanding. “Don’t let me catch you looking at her like that again.”
Serena bit her lip, then finally said, “Tyler, even if you don’t care, if word gets out, it’s still going to mess with your reputation.” Eleanor was about to snap back, but Tyler squeezed her hand and gently shook his head. Eleanor decided to stay quiet. “I told you, I’m going to get to the bottom of what happened back then. If you care so much about being pure, then why is there all that shady stuff going on between you and your adoptive father?” said Tyler.
