Eleanor looked genuinely puzzled. “Chris, I seriously don’t get your logic. What does any of this have to do with Serena?”
Chris replied coldly, “Tyler’s here, so I was going to keep quiet. But tell me, Eleanor, isn’t this all because you wanted me but couldn’t have me, so now you’re just bitter?”
Eleanor laughed. “You’re really something. Why are you so convinced I still have feelings for you? What, you only go for the hopeless romantic types who throw their whole life at you? Who do you think you are?”
“Then why did you marry Tyler instead of someone else?” Chris shot back.
“I saved his life, and we know each other well. What’s wrong with me marrying him? Did you lose your memory or just lose your mind? Did you forget our families had an engagement?” Eleanor retorted.
“Tyler, don’t let yourself get guilt–tripped. And don’t forget–someone drugged and assaulted her.” Chris sneered.
“Enough.” Tyler said coldly. “Just do what you’re told and stop running your mouth. When Eleanor was set up, I happened to be there. I’m the one who took her away. Don’t you think I know exactly what happened?”
Eleanor looked at Tyler in surprise. She hadn’t expected him to say that out loud. She thought, ‘Wouldn’t this just give people ammo to say he was after his nephew’s girl all along?‘
Chris was stunned. Kara was also caught off guard for a second, but quickly recovered. “So you two were already together back then.”
“Kara, watch your words,” Tyler said. “That night, I just happened to be at the bar.”
“Oh, sure, just a coincidence?” Kara scoffed. “Eleanor, I didn’t think you were the type to play both sides.”
Tyler’s face darkened. “Kara, were you blind to how Eleanor treated Chris before? I actually know where the line is, unlike some people.
“And Chris, your girlfriend went through something, and instead of finding out the truth, you just believed the rumors. How did the Langford family end up with someone so gullible?”
“I do care. I just pretended not to know and never brought it up in front of her.” Chris insisted. “Tyler, you and Eleanor slept together that night, didn’t you?”
Suddenly, Tyler hurled a cup straight at Chris. Chris didn’t react fast enough–the cup hit his forehead, leaving a bloody gash. Kara freaked out, quickly telling someone to grab the first aid kit as she clumsily tried to stop Chris’s bleeding.
“Chris, after I saved Eleanor, I left before she even woke up. If I’d known she went to the hospital for a virginity test, I never would’ve left her alone at that hotel,” said Tyler.
Chris’s eyes went wide in shock.
“She’s a girl–of course she’d care about things like that. She chose to keep it to herself, so what? You pretend it doesn’t bother you, but deep down, it makes you sick. You even thought about using it as leverage,” Tyler continued.
Chris didn’t argue. The truth was, it did make him uncomfortable, and he’d even considered exposing it. But he hadn’t, because he still worried Eleanor might get hurt. He resented her, but he never wanted to actually hurt her.
‘But that virginity test… Chris thought. He glanced at Eleanor, remembering how Serena had said Eleanor just couldn’t stand being alone and got herself into trouble looking for fun.
“Even if the rumors had blown up back then, that test wouldn’t have proved anything. People would just say it v done after a repair.” Tyler’s voice was cold.

He continued, “But Chris, Serena never even got tested, and she’s way too close to her adoptive dad. But you don’t care about that, do you?”
“Enough” Chris clenched his fists, “I’ll draw the hundred roses. Just like Eleanor said
“Let me make this clear, Chris. If you ever try to use Eleanor’s past against her, you’d better think twice about whether Serena is as innocent as you think,” said Tyler,
Chris lowered his eyes. “I know.”
Chris couldn’t calm down all morning. He thought, ‘Why did Tyler’s story sound so different from what I’d heard from Serena? Did Serena lie to me? No…. she isn’t that kind of person‘ Chris set his brush down, ready to get some answers from Eleanor.
Tyler had headed to the office that morning, so Eleanor was alone in her room, still tweaking her proposal.
When she heard a knock, Eleanor opened the door and saw Chris standing there. She immediately frowned and tried to shut the door, but Chris was quicker and slipped inside before she could.
“Get out.” Eleanor pointed toward the hallway. “Or I swear, I’ll beat you up
“Are you really still a virgin?” Chris stared at her and asked.
Eleanor shot him a glare. “What is wrong with you?”
before I throw you out.”
“Yeah, you and Tyler’s wedding is around the corner,” A flash of sadness crossed Chris’s face. “Why can’t you just be honest with me?”
Eleanor glanced at the bandage on his forehead. “Looks like the lesson still didn’t stick.”
She yanked the hairpin from her hair and pointed it at him. “If you don’t leave right now, I’ll be happy to give you another
scar.”
“Eleanor.”
“Get out. Now!”
Chris’s face fell. “Does it really have to be like this between us?” Chris walked out, looking completely defeated.
Eleanor finally let out a sigh of relief, but before she could react, Chris suddenly spun around and pinned her against the wall. The difference in strength between them was obvious–she couldn’t break free. She glared at him. “What the hell are you doing?”
“I just want to know–are you trying to get back at me?”
Eleanor narrowed her eyes, then suddenly drove her knee hard into Chris’s groin. Chris doubled over in pain, his grip loosening. Eleanor took the chance to break free.
Cold sweat broke out on Chris’s forehead. Suddenly, he felt a piercingly cold gaze fixed on him. Chris looked toward the doorway–Tyler was standing there, his face dark and stormy, anger radiating off him. The look in his eyes was sharp as a
blade.
“T–Tyler…” Chris stammered.
“Get out,” Tyler barked.

Chris didn’t dare stick around and hurried out. Just as he stepped out the door, he heard Tyler’s warning, “She’ll soon be my wife. Show some respect.”
Eleanor looked at Tyler, suddenly feeling a little uneasy. But then she thought, ‘I didn’t do anything wrong, so what am I afraid of?‘ She asked, “Why are you back so early?”
“Finished up, so I came back.” Chris picked up Eleanor’s hand, his face darkening as he saw the red mark on her wrist. “Does it hurt?”
Eleanor shook her head. “You’re not suspicious at all?”
Tyler replied, “I’m not blind, you know.”
Eleanor grinned, wrapped her arms around him, and gave him a quick kiss on the lips. “That’s your reward for not jumping to conclusions.”
Tyler was stunned for a second before it hit him–she actually made the first move and kissed him. Even if it was just a quick peck. “Eleanor.”
“Huh?”
“Come with me. Let’s check if there’s anything else we need to set up at the wedding venue.”
“Alright.” Eleanor stepped outside and saw only Tyler. “Where is he?”
Tyler had brought a driver, so he and Eleanor sat together in the back seat. As soon as they got in, Tyler said, “Put up the partition.”
Watching the divider slowly slide up, Eleanor asked, “What are you up to?”
Tyler smirked. “Just didn’t feel like sharing what we look like when we’re together.”
