Chapter 107
Chapter 107
News from the police soon arrived: the three people involved were not actually a family. The so–called “parents” had lost their own child to drowning Desperate, they came across a rumor that their kid could be brought back to life–but only if they traded the soul of a child who’d killed someone.
They got a kid from some so–called “master,” a child who’d been hypnotized and had no idea what was happening, and went through with the plan.
It all sounded completely insane.
Tyler frowned. “There are still people who believe this kind of crap?”
“There’s always someone out there who’ll believe the wildest things.” Eleanor spoke calmly, but then added, “The question is, are they telling the truth?”

Tyler shook his head. “Only they would know. You think your dad was the one who found them?”
Eleanor stood there quietly, hand on her chin, lost in thought. “Honestly, it does sound like something he’d do. I remember there was a time he got obsessed with some movie, started talking all mysteriously about soul possession, and even tried to learn it from some so–called master. My mom totally lost it on him. Because of that, she’s super biased against traditional medicine and occult powers–she thinks it’s all just witchcraft.
“If that’s the case, he’s not far from losing his mind,” Tyler said coldly.
Just then, his phone rang. He answered, then glanced at Eleanor. “Detective Miller wants to see us.”
Detective Miller, the one who took over the case, looked grim when they arrived. “Mr. Langford, this involves your wife. I need to talk to both of you.”
“Me?” Eleanor asked, surprised.
“Yes,” Detective Miller replied. “The two suspects confessed to being part of a mysterious organization. This group claims to be able to resurrect the dead or transfer souls into new bodies. Miss Donovan, do you know someone named Serena Farrell?”
Eleanor nodded. “Yeah, I know her.”
“One of their goals was to kill you and transplant Serena Farrell’s consciousness into your body.”
Eleanor was stunned for a second, then suddenly laughed. “That’s insane. They really thought this could work?”
Detective Miller hesitated, then said, “According to their confession, the person behind it is Ethan Donovan.”
Eleanor scoffed. “Of course. My father. Any news on his whereabouts?”
Detective Miller shook his head. “We’ve opened an official case. This isn’t a minor matter. I’ve already reported it up the chain. Please take care of your safety. We can assign protection if needed.”
Eleanor lowered her eyes, thinking for a moment. “I really don’t want my wedding ruined, but this is the best chance we’ll get. We have to catch him if we want this to end for good.”
Tyler looked at her with concern. “Are you sure?”
“He’ll only come out if we force his hand at that moment.” Eleanor slammed her hand on the table, her eyes flashing with anger. “This organization needs to be rooted out completely. Leaving them around is just asking for trouble!”
Detective Miller glanced at her seriously. “Mrs. Langford, you seem very upset.”
Tyler answered in her place. “Her long–awaited wedding is at risk of being ruined–wouldn’t you be angry?”
“Oh!” Detective Miller suddenly remembered that he’d heard Tyler was planning a traditional wedding at Hanworth Manor on Mount Seraphina.
That was going to be a huge event, and if anything went wrong, the fallout would be massive.

“Mrs. Langford, I can assign a team to ensure the wedding proceeds safely. After that, we can plan our next move.” he suggested.
“No need,” Eleanor waved him off. “I don’t like unnecessary hassle, and getting them to show themselves won’t be hard. My wedding won’t be affected. but I’m definitely not in a good mood.”
“Mrs. Langford, if you can assist in taking down this organization, we’d really appreciate it. The police and the public need to work together. Groups like this are dangerous–they’re one of our key targets.”
“Alright, I’ll go back and make some arrangements.”
Outside the police station, Eleanor looked up at the blue sky. The world was still a beautiful place, yet there were always people who had to ruin it.
“So, what’s your plan?” Tyler asked.
1
“I’m going to start with Serena,” Eleanor said. “She’s clever. She would never believe in this nonsense. I underestimated her. Turns out, she really wants me dead.”
Tyler’s face darkened. “If we get proof this time, I’ll make sure she’s out of the Langford family. Keeping her around is a ticking time bomb.”
Eleanor let out a cold laugh. “Chris will never believe it. He’ll just keep thinking Serena was forced into it, that she had no choice. And if she wants me dead, whether they’re divorced or not won’t make a difference. Even if she hasn’t dealt with that group directly, I don’t buy for a second that she’s
clueless.”
“So, what are you going to do?” Tyler asked.
“I want her to come clean. I need to talk to her alone,” Eleanor replied.
“Alone?” Tyler frowned. “That’s dangerous.”
“It’s fine. I’m just going to hypnotize her and ask a few questions. But whatever she says under hypnosis can’t be used as evidence–people are super suggestible in that state, so what comes out might not even be true. Their words might be misleading or just imaginary. It’s a huge loophole. But it’s enough for me to understand her plan.”
Tyler rested his hand on Eleanor’s shoulder. “Don’t push yourself too hard. I can help look into some of this too.”
Eleanor shook her head. “We already know the truth. I just need confirmation. I’ll record it. Even if I can’t give it to the police, I want to show it to Chris.”
Tyler’s face darkened, a little jealous. “Show him? What for?”
Eleanor looked at him with amusement. “Are you jealous?”
Tyler’s voice dropped. “If he believes you and regrets it, what about you? What would you do?”
Tyler felt a little anxious. After all, Eleanor and Chris grew up together and dated for seven years. He’d only confessed his feelings less than a month ago. Honestly, if Chris tried to win her back, he wasn’t sure he’d stand a chance.
“I’m just showing him the truth,” Eleanor said lightly. “What he does with it is his business. Honestly, I’m tired of him bothering me. If he and Serena start doubting each other, they’ll spend less time annoying/me.”
Tyler let out a breath. “For a second there, I thought you were going to divorce me.”
Eleanor grinned. “I’m not stupid. You’re my good luck charm. Why would I divorce you?”
Tyler covered his mouth and coughed lightly. “That’s it? No other reason?”
Eleanor laughed. “Take a guess.”
When they returned to the Langford family home, Tyler didn’t beat around the bush. “We were almost assassinated today. Serena, anything you want to say about that?”
