Chapter 4 Terminate Pregnancy
I thought, ‘How ironic. Is the child in my womb just a figment of my imagination? After all, he is ‘dead.”
I forced myself to push down the bitterness and anger swirling inside me, refusing to look at the two of them acting all lovey–dovey.
I barely held back the disgust as I nodded. “You don’t need to worry. The idea of merging both families is completely absurd, and I won’t agree to it.”

Paul turned to look at me, a surprised expression on his face when he heard what I said.
I lifted my head and saw my in–laws coming down the stairs. They had obviously heard what I just said, their faces filled with sympathy as they looked at my pale face and swollen eyes.
Sarah hesitated, as though she wanted to say something but didn’t quite know how to start. “Monica…”
I glanced at both of them, my emotions a tangled mess. Since I married into this family, they had treated me well. Their concern in the past few days had been real.
But when I thought about how Paul had orchestrated my kidnapping and abuse for three days and nights, I realized they had known everything.
They had kept it from me, and that made my feelings for them incredibly complicated. I could never call them “Mom” and “Dad” again.
“You’ve heard it too,” I said, my voice steady despite the turmoil inside me. “The idea of merging the families is absurd, and I won’t agree to it.”
Sarah, probably remembering what Paul had said the day before, didn’t try to argue.
She simply sighed and spoke softly. “I understand. You love Paul deeply, and I know you can’t forget him. You’ll never agree to this. But I can’t help but feel for you…”
She paused, casting a glance at Paul, before speaking again, her tone full of concern. “Moni-

ca, Paul is gone, but you’re still here. Life has to move forward. I want to urge you to stop holding on to the past. You need to move on and start living again.”
Paul and Jessie, upon hearing that I wouldn’t agree to merging the families, visibly relaxed, their expressions softening just a little.
But Paul’s gaze held something more complicated as he looked at me.
Hearing Sarah’s words, he put on a sympathetic expression and began speaking in a tone that sounded almost rehearsed. “Monica, Mom’s right. Paul is gone. No matter how much you loved him, he’s no longer here.”
He continued, “You two can never be together. You’ll have to keep liying, and the sooner you let go, the better it will be–for both of you. Thankfully, he left you a child, a piece of him that will remain.”
He added, “Even without him, you’ll still have his child to take care of. For the sake of the baby, you need to be strong and move on.”
As I listened to Paul’s pretentious words, I couldn’t help but feel a bitter laugh rising within me. I thought, ‘A child? Does he honestly think I would carry his child? What a ridiculous fantasy!‘
I mocked him silently, but on the outside, I forced myself to appear touched. I nodded along to their words. “You’re right. I thought about it all night yesterday, and I’ve come to under- stand. I’ve been stubborn all this time, and I know it’s worried you.”
I said, “Since Paul was always physically weak and this pregnancy has been so difficult, maybe it’s fate’s way of ending his bloodline. So, I’ve decided to accept what fate has in
store.”
I added, “I’ll listen to you. I’ll terminate the pregnancy, let go of him completely, and move on with my life.”
