Chapter 2
In that moment, my blood rushed to my head as everything spun around me.
Only one word kept flashing through my mind: Divorce.
I drove frantically to the hospital, but the moment my foot touched the ground, a movement from the baby inside me made me pause.
Looking down at my belly, my emotions cooled, my resolve wavering.
This child–I’d waited eight years for this miracle.
In nine months, I’d be a mother.
After some thought, I closed my eyes, swallowed the rising emotion, and called Liam.
Ten seconds–I’d give him ten seconds to decide our baby’s fate.
The phone rang, but Liam–who usually answered instantly–didn’t pick up.
Ten, nine, eight, seven… I counted silently, my fingers stiffening around the phone.
Three… two…
One…
Ice flooded my veins as I abruptly ended the call.
The next moment, a black Maybach raced toward me.
CRASH!
With the impact came searing pain in my abdomen. Through blurred vision, I saw Liam jump from the passenger seat, cradling Savannah as they rushed into the hospital.
Savannah’s face was tear–streaked, pathetically vulnerable.
“Liam, I hit someone! What if I go to prison? I don’t want to go to prison. I’d never see you again!”
Chapter 2
Liam kissed her forehead gently. “Don’t worry. Whatever happens, whoever you hit, I won’t let anything happen to you.”
I watched their retreating figures in lonely silence as blood and amniotic fluid streamed down my
legs.
The abdominal pain spread to my heart as I tried calling Liam’s name. But he was completely
focused on comforting the terrified Savannah, deaf to everything else.
By the time bystanders carried me into the hospital, I could hear Liam arguing with medical staff.
“This pregnant woman is clearly in worse condition! How could you assign all the emergency
doctors to your case? What if something happens to her?”
“I’ll take responsibility if anything happens. No one is more important than my Savannah!”
My Savannah…
Hearing those words, my heart turned to ice.
A nurse suddenly shouted, “She’s hemorrhaging severely! If we don’t act now, we can’t save the
baby!”
Liam, completely oblivious, simply closed the emergency room door behind him, effectively cutting off any chance for our child’s survival.
I laughed bitterly and closed my eyes.
“Don’t try to save it. Terminate the pregnancy.”
The nurse checked my medical history, her face sympathetic.
“Are
you certain? This pregnancy was hard–won…”
What I wanted was a child born from love between Liam and me, but not one delivered into a world of lies and betrayal.
With
my last bit of strength, I signed the consent form.
When I woke up, my long–awaited baby had become formless tissue.
Eight years of hoping, ended in betrayal.

Chapter 2
My heart was too numb to feel pain.
A nurse asked how I wanted to handle the remains.
Suddenly, I remembered countless nights when Liam had caressed my belly, his expression full of hope.
Since he wanted a child so badly… Then I’d give him both the child and his freedom.
After leaving the operating table, I contacted my lawyer to prepare divorce papers.
Carrying the box with the fetal remains, I exited the hospital.
Across the street at a café, I spotted two familiar figures.
Liam–my germaphobic husband–was eating cake from Savannah’s fork.
One bite for him, one for her–like lovers who’d been together forever.
When he saw me, Liam immediately released Savannah’s hand.
“Miranda! What are you doing here… you look terrible. Are you still sick?” He reached to feel my
forehead, the sickly–sweet scent of perfume wafting from him.
I turned away from his touch, indicating the box in my hands.
“Our anniversary is coming up. I got you a gift.”
Liam visibly relaxed, reaching for it.
‘You’re always so thoughtful. What’d you get me?”
‘It’s a surprise. You’ll find out on our anniversary.”
Liam insisted on peeking early, and Savannah suddenly leaned in.
