Chapter 4
“Impossible!”
Without any hesitation, Liam instantly positioned himself in front of Savannah.
The look he gave me was like I was some irrational shrew.
“I don’t understand what you’re throwing a tantrum about.”
“Haven’t I been good enough to you all these years? Why are you determined to bully this young girl? Everyone knows how much I love you–why are you never satisfied?”
Avoiding the real issue–that was his answer.
Liam had already made his choice.
I left without another word and drove to my lawyer’s office.
After unsuccessful attempts to explain himself, Liam lost patience.
He stayed at the office, leaving me with just one message: “Cool off on your own for a while.”
Eight years of stability had made him confident I would process my emotions independently.
So after my strong demand to fire Savannah, not only did he refuse to back down, but to appease his new love, he transferred the project I’d managed for three years to her and fast–tracked her permanent position.
Watching Savannah completely butcher my years of hard work until it was an absolute mess, I inally reached my breaking point.
Yet when I confronted him with my fury, Liam didn’t even bother to look up from his desk.
‘Savannah is a highly capable employee. Keeping her is for the company’s benefit.”
‘And buying her bags and shoes is also for the company? You’ve worked with your executive assistant for years–I don’t see you taking him shopping.”
He flipped through some documents, dismissively saying:

“Think what you want. I can’t stop you.”
“For eight years, I’ve maintained my principles and never done anything to betray you.”
“My relationship with Savannah is transparent to everyone in the company. If you don’t believe me, ask anyone.”
I took a deep breath.
“Fine, since you can’t handle it, I’ll solve this myself!”
As I left his office, Savannah approached in her low–waisted suit.
She smiled triumphantly. “Mrs. Reynolds, anything I can help you with?”
“Oh wait, I’m not just a regular employee now–I’m the new project manager. You can’t order me around or fire me anymore.”
returned a gentle smile.
“Pride comes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.”
“Some things, even if they’re my discarded scraps, aren’t meant for you to handle!”
Our cold war continued. Liam still stayed at the office, only sending many gifts instead.
His assistant repeatedly tried to mediate:
“Mrs. Reynolds, there’s truly nothing between them.”
“We all know he only has eyes for you. I’ve seen him staring at your photo in his office, sighing with
heartache.”
I remained unmoved.
The night before our anniversary, Liam finally returned home,
He embraced me from behind, his voice choked with emotion.
“Miranda, please stop being angry. Tomorrow’s our anniversary–I don’t want to spend such an important day fighting…”

I nodded slightly.
The invitations had already been sent out. His pride would never allow people to witness our
dysfunction.
That night, Liam held my hand as we slept, refusing to let go even for a moment.
At dawn, he hurriedly dressed.
‘I have some urgent matters to handle. I’ll have my assistant pick you up for the party after I’m
done.”
Before our troubles, I might have assumed he was preparing a surprise.
But now, I just stared at the video Savannah had sent:
‘Even on your anniversary, your husband comes to me first. How pathetic you are.”
The video showed them in his office the day before her promotion.
Both tipsy, confessing feelings for each other. As clothes came off, she embraced him:
‘I’ll give myself to you–just let me stay by your side, okay?”
His arms tightened around her waist as he murmured, “Okay.”
Liam had broken his promise–he’d crossed both marital and professional boundaries.
I forwarded the video to my lawyer, instructing him to proceed as planned.
Then I purchased a one–way ticket abroad.
After tonight, whatever storm Liam faced would no longer concern me.
The party began, guests arrived, but Miranda was nowhere to be seen.
Liam felt increasingly uneasy.
He wanted to call her, but was approached by an unfamiliar man carrying a box.

“Mr. Reynolds, your wife prepared this gift for you. She insisted you open it personally.”
The surrounding guests smiled indulgently.
‘Liam and Miranda are still so romantic after all these years–still preparing surprises even as an
old married couple.”
‘Everyone knows Liam is the perfect modern husband. If I were Mrs. Reynolds, I’d be completely
devoted to him too.”
The feeling of unease was replaced by joy.
Liam smiled as he stepped forward to open the box.
At that exact moment, the large screen behind him lit up, filling the darkened room with Savannah’s
breathless moans.
While the guests stared at the screen in shock, Liam was focused solely on the box’s contents, his
ace draining of all color…
