Chapter 7
The Reynolds family’s PR machine worked efficiently.
Within days, the scandal that had rocked their social circle was suppressed.
While feeding pigeons on a London street, I received inquiries from only a handful of friends.
“Are you and Liam really divorcing? Such a shame–you two were the definition of couple goals. How did it come to this so quickly?”
“What are your plans now? Going back to the States? Or maybe finding yourself a cute British guy
with an accent?”
I scattered some breadcrumbs with a smile.
“First, I need to recover physically. Then I’m considering a graduate degree–Harvard or Cambridge, I haven’t decided yet.”
“Why suddenly go back to school? Weren’t you doing well in your career?”
Indeed I was–until all my hard work was handed to someone else on a silver platter.
I sighed.
“Liam always said I needed to be more mature, to act like the proper Mrs. Reynolds. I did everything he asked, but in the end, he fell for an intern who hadn’t even graduated.”
“And for her, he nearly destroyed my career.”
Thinking of this, the breadcrumbs crumbled in my clenched fist.
“Ungrateful bastard.”
My friends offered sympathetic words and suggested retail therapy.
I took Liam’s credit card and ravaged luxury boutiques across London.
The Dior and Louis Vuitton pieces looked offensive to my eyes–I ended up giving them away to strangers on the street.

It was laughable, really.
Savannah thought Liam taking her shopping and buying her gifts meant true love.
But she didn’t understand that for people in our position, material things were utterly meaningless.
Every year, I gave away hundreds of thousands in designer goods for client relations and social
obligations.
What Liam spent on Savannah wouldn’t even register on our balance sheet.
After this brief catharsis, I refused to wallow in negativity.
Shopping sprees and champagne brunches offer only fleeting, artificial happiness.
Rather than punishing myself for someone else’s mistakes, I preferred focusing on self–improvement.
When Liam finally tracked me down, I was on my way to the library.
The moment he saw me, he blurted out, “Miranda, I’ve missed you so much. You have no idea how hard I’ve been searching for you…”
I raised my hand to stop his speech midway.
‘What’s been so difficult? First–class flights, five–star hotels. The real suffering was experienced by your poor secretary Jackson who ordered by like a dog and then berated.”
‘If you showed him even a fraction of the leniency you gave Savannah, he wouldn’t have been crying on the phone to me at 3 AM.”
Liam appeared momentarily stunned.
“But I genuinely missed you. Not knowing where you were felt like being stabbed repeatedly. I worried you weren’t doing well, that you might be in danger.”
“Miranda, now that we’ve found each other, can’t we sit somewhere and talk properly?”
I smiled sardonically.
“Liam, you’re so self–centered. I’m on vacation, not playing some disappearing act.”
“All my friends and family know exactly where I am. They just despise what you did and refused to

tell you.”
My unfiltered honesty made Liam’s face pale considerably.
After a long pause, he managed a bitter smile.
“It’s been a while since I’ve seen this side of you. Just like when we first met–sharp–tongued and fiercely confident.”
When I met Liam, I wasn’t much older than Savannah–young, beauty–obsessed, and thoroughly
spoiled by my family, living each day purely for pleasure.
We met through an arranged introduction.
He had impeccable breeding, the finest education, and perfect manners–disciplined, gentle, and respectful… essentially every woman’s dream.
When such a man began pursuing me, I couldn’t help falling for him.
I’d seen plenty of playboys and marriages maintained solely for appearances.
Affairs and illegitimate children weren’t shocking in our circle.
My friends often warned, “Men are all the same–they can’t be trusted.”
But eight years of daily companionship, of attentive care and unwavering support, had convinced me Liam would be the exception.
But unfortunately, he proved me wrong.
Seeming to read my thoughts, Liam hastily explained:
“Miranda, the video you received wasn’t complete. That night, I never slept with Savannah!”
I laughed coldly.
“Emotional infidelity or physical–isn’t it all betrayal?”
