Vesper beamed in a white gown, but Gideon didn’t look so thrilled. He kept scanning the
crowd, as if expecting someone.
His face was cloudy when the ceremony began. Vesper nudged him, and he finally snapped
back.
As the officiant spoke, Gideon scanned the room once again and suddenly grabbed the mic.
“The wedding is off. Enjoy your free meal,” he declared, walking out.
Vesper chased after him. “What is going on? Where are you going?”
He was irritated. “I don’t feel like marrying you anymore.”
She pressed, “Why?”
His voice was ice. “You’re just a stand–in. You look nothing like her.‘
Vesper gasped, “What do you mean by that?”
He ignored her pain. “You were always a stand–in.”

As she protested, he ordered his bodyguard to stop her and walked off alone.
When my phone rang with Gideon’s number, I rejected it without a second thought.
When he tried again, I frowned and simply blocked him.
