Chapter 8
“They’re completely different!” Liam’s emotions flared.
“I maintained my boundaries and kept my promise to you–why can’t you forgive me? I’ve done better than most men would in my position.”
“So many women would choose to forgive–why can’t you be one of them!”
My hand unconsciously drifted to my abdomen with an indescribable bitterness rising within me.
“Because your betrayal killed our child.”
“When you called all the doctors away for Savannah.”
“When you shielded her behind you in front of me.”
“When

you gave her the project I’d managed for three years just to make her happy.”
you
embraced each other half–naked in your office, confessing your feelings–did you think about your boundaries then? Did you remember your promises to me?”
What stood between Liam and me wasn’t just his betrayal. It was also a child who should have been born into happiness.
I regarded him coldly.
‘You know I’m not some clinging vine dependent on you for survival. I don’t need to tolerate this to maintain my lifestyle.”
“The moment you developed feelings for Savannah, we’re done. I don’t want to–nor could I possibly–live in endless suspicion and doubt.”
That night, Liam didn’t sleep with Savannah not because he didn’t want to, but because circumstances prevented it.
Because after weighing pros and cons, he chose to give up.
So I would never forgive a man who was both weak and calculating.

Chapter 8
Liam pressed his lips together, watching me silently.
He was suppressing his emotions. But the powerful mixture of love and regret still leaked through
his eyes.
With a sigh, Liam chose to concede.
“I’ll sign the divorce papers. I’ll also provide appropriate financial compensation.”
“I have just one request–spend a few more days with me first, okay?”
“Don’t… don’t make me lose you so suddenly. This feeling of being unprepared–I can’t handle it…”
Two years dating, eight years married.
Ten full years together, Miranda and Liam had become deeply intertwined, accustomed to each other’s constant presence. Separating was like being flayed alive–impossible to escape the pain.
I took a deep breath. “Liam, I went through the same thing. When I suddenly learned of your betrayal, I was also shattered to the core.”
“Remember this–people who’ve made mistakes don’t get to make demands.”
After a lengthy silence, he nodded. “I understand.”
The next morning, after Liam signed the divorce papers, he caught the first flight back.
We’d both outgrown the age of reckless passion.
He had his business empire; I had my future to rebuild.
Desperate clinging wasn’t his style; compromise wasn’t in my nature.
Our best ending was a clean, complete separation.
Liam was a brilliant businessman who knew how to calculate gain and loss.
A momentary emotional breakdown wouldn’t derail his methodical life.
The thirty–day cooling–off period passed quickly. During this time, apart from necessary work transitions and property settlements, Liam didn’t reach out to me.

Chapter 8
On the appointed date, I returned to finalize our divorce.
Liam looked considerably thinner.
He handed me the divorce certificate.
“Savannah’s in prison. Attempted murder charges. She likely won’t get out in this lifetime.”
I nodded, turning to leave when he called after me.
“Miranda, will we ever see each other again?”
“As friends, or… as strangers.”
His voice broke with emotion.
For the first time, he lost his composure in front of me.
“Whether you believe it or not, I truly loved you. The ten years we spent together were the happiest of my life. The reason I was drawn to Savannah was because she reminded me of you when you
were younger.”
“I made up excuses to contact you just to hear your voice again.”
‘Miranda, I don’t want to lose you…”
I didn’t answer and didn’t look back.
The blizzard had ended. Love had run its course.
I had my own path to follow now.
