Chapter 6
My body was launched several meters through the air before crashing heavily onto the racetrack.
Before consciousness faded to black, I thought I saw Ethan running toward me, his face panic–stricken.
When I opened my eyes again, my body was in too much pain to move.
The world before me was half dark, half light.
Pale–faced, I frantically covered my right eye, accidentally pulling out the IV, drawing a line of blood.
Ethan entered and held me still. “Don’t move. You’re seriously injured.”
Trembling, I asked, “Why can’t I see out of my left eye?”
Ethan frowned slightly. “Vivian’s eye was injured by glass. I had your left cornea transplanted to her.”
I stared at him in shock, thinking for a moment I’d misheard.
“What did you say?”
Ethan pressed his lips together, looking at me with some guilt. “Sophia, Vivian is young. If her eye was damaged, what kind of future would she have? You’re different. You have me. Even with one blind eye, I won’t abandon you. I’ll make it
you. I’ll make it up to you later.”
I bit my lip hard, breaking down in screams, “Who wants your compensation!”
“What right did you have to take my cornea without my consent!”
Tears poured uncontrollably down my face as my body shook.
“Vivian tried to kill me, yet you gave my cornea to the person who attempted murder!”
Before I finished speaking, Vivian rushed in from outside, her face streaked with tears.
“Sophia, I know you hate me, but you can’t slander me just because Uncle cares about me. You can’t
accuse me of trying to run you over.”
“You were the one trying to get Uncle’s attention with a sympathy play. You jumped in front of my car. I couldn’t brake in time.”
I stared at her melodramatic face in disbelief, feeling a surge of anger rushing to my head.

Vivian grabbed my hand, her sharp nails digging into my flesh.
She lowered her voice smugly, “Sophia Mitchell, while you were between life and death in intensive care, Uncle and I made passionate love all night in the next room. You’re just a dog we use for entertainment.”
My body went cold. Before I could react, she suddenly screamed and fell backward.
Ethan rushed to catch her, panic filling his eyes. “Vivian, are you hurt?”
Vivian buried her face in his chest, crying pitifully. “Uncle, I just wanted to check on Sophia, but she told me to drop dead. I’m so scared. Would you break her hands? First she pushes me, next time she might try to kill me with a knife.”
Ethan stood in silence, then signaled his bodyguards to hold my wrists.
The blood drained from my face as I shook my head desperately. “No, Ethan, you can’t do this to me.”
A flash of reluctance crossed his eyes. “Sophia, you falsely accused Vivian and now you’ve hurt her. When you do wrong, you must be punished. Don’t worry, after you’re discharged, we’ll get married. I’ll make it up to you for the rest of your life.”
With that, he took out the scalpel he’d used countless times on cadavers.
The blade fell.
The tendons in both my hands were severed instantly.
