Chapter 7
The pain was so intense I nearly lost consciousness, my body drenched in cold sweat as I collapsed onto the bed like a rag doll.
But he just dropped the scalpel and went to check on Vivian.
After confirming Vivian didn’t have even a scratch, Ethan immediately turned to return to my room.
But Vivian refused to let go. “Uncle, I need you with me.”
Ethan impatiently brushed her hand away. “You’re grown up now. Stop clinging to me. Sophia has lost both her hands and can’t hurt you. Once she’s discharged, I’m going to marry her, and she’ll be your aunt. You need to respect her.”
Remembering my numb, dead gaze when he left the room, Ethan felt unprecedented panic for the first time in his life.
He called his assistant while walking. “Bring the diamond ring I prepared to the hospital, sixth floor. For the hundredth proposal, I’ll be the one to-”
Before he could finish, a massive explosion shook the entire building.
Ethan braced himself against the wall, barely staying upright. He saw countless patients and doctors fleeing in terror, someone shouting, “Oxygen tanks exploded on the sixth floor! The whole floor collapsed!
RUN!”
Everyone was pushing and running.
Only Ethan stood motionless, his ears ringing.
After recovering, he grabbed a passerby. “What happened in the ward?”
He didn’t realize his breathing had become unsteady.
Words tumbled out, “Is Sophia making you lie to me? I already agreed to marry her. What game is she playing? Is it fun to joke with her life?”
The passerby looked at him like he was insane.
“What’s wrong with you? Who’s lying? The ward exploded. I’m trying to save my life. Let go of me!”
With that, he shoved Ethan away.

Chapter 7
Though not much force was used, Ethan’s legs gave way.
He immediately called me, but after more than a dozen attempts, all he got was a busy signal.
Boundless panic gripped his heart. He heard a buzzing in his ears, his mind filled with the image of me lying on the bed, tendons severed, my gaze dead and hopeless.
He couldn’t wait any longer, rushed toward the hospital ward.
Smoke mixed with dust. The entire ward building was devastated by the explosion.
The sixth floor had completely collapsed, countless stone slabs tilted at odd angles, the floor
unrecognizable.
Ethan stood with bloodshot eyes, stumbling when bumped by passing firefighters, falling onto broken
glass without feeling it.
A firefighter hurriedly pulled him up. “Sir, it’s dangerous here. Don’t linger. Leave quickly.”
Ethan grabbed him, opening his mouth several times before managing to produce a hoarse sound. “My wife is on the sixth floor. Please save her.”
Hearing this, the firefighter’s face grew heavy with sympathy. “I’m sorry, sir. 16 people on the sixth floor, including patients and medical staff, have all…”
He sighed. “My condolences.”
With that, he hurried away.
Ethan staggered a few steps, the entire world seeming to spin around him.
