Chapter 4
Aurora’s POV
I didn’t know how much time had passed before the sound of Xavier and Alpha Jareth arguing woke
me up.
That was when I realized–I was back in the hospital again.
When Xavier saw me open my eyes, he seemed to breathe a sigh of relief.
But his expression quickly darkened as he turned to Alpha Jareth with visible displeasure.
“So this is the Luna you picked for me? She just gave birth and already ran off to date some pretty
boy.”
Alpha Jareth trembled with rage.
“Date? Do you even know where Aurora went yesterday-‘
))
“Grandfather.” I cut him off, my voice calm. “It’s in the past.”
Alpha Jareth understood what I meant and didn’t say anything more. He just looked at Xavier with
utter disappointment.
Xavier, however, shrugged nonchalantly.
“She’s awake now. There’s nothing left for me to do here. Amara’s waiting for me. I’m leaving.”
Alpha Jareth slammed his cane down furiously. “You ungrateful bastard.”
“I don’t care where you go today, but tomorrow you must return to the packhouse with Aurora-”
Before he could even finish, Xavier had already disappeared through the door.
Alpha Jareth sighed deeply, his back seeming even more hunched than before.
He handed me a divorce agreement, already signed.
“Aurora,” he said, “not raising him right is my failure. But he’s still your child’s father. I hope… you’ll attend the funeral and send him off.”
I looked at the once–legendary former Alpha of the pack, now with white hair and tired eyes, and I couldn’t bring myself to say no.
Early the next morning, I returned to the packhouse dressed in black.

This child… I had risked my life to bring him into this world.
But I never even got the chance to hold him before he was taken away forever.
I wiped the tears from the corners of my eyes.
Maybe this was for the best–without any ties, I could truly let go.
I had given my all to this marriage.
Now that I was leaving, I felt nothing but exhaustion. No regrets.
Xavier never showed up for the burial.
But I did see photos online–of him and Amara trying on wedding outfits.
Amara even sent me a smug message.
“So what if you had his baby? Xavier still chose me in the end.”
“Oh, and in case you thought Xavier was the one looking after you while you were unconscious–he
wasn’t. He was with me the whole time. We were in the room next to yours, trying out lots of new
positions.”
In the video, my face was pale and sickly, while hers was radiant and glowing with satisfaction.
I didn’t reply. I simply forwarded everything–messages and videos–to Alpha Jareth.
Then I took off my wedding ring and drew a silver blade across my palm.
Clenching my fist, I declared:
“I, Aurora Blackthorn, reject Xavier Ashen, Alpha of the Darkfire Pack, as my mate.”
A sharp pain pierced through my chest, and in the next moment, our already fragile mate bond shattered completely.
I felt like I could breathe again.
Wiping away the tears, I held my mother’s urn close and whispered,
“Let’s go home, Mom.”
And just like that-
Goodbye, my mate.

Xavier’s POV
It wasn’t until nightfall that I finally staggered back to the packhouse, reeking of alcohol.
As I pushed the door open, I was stunned by the sight of all the funeral wreaths.
“Who died?” I asked, my voice shaking. “Was it Aurora’s mother?”
My heart pounded with panic.
“This is huge! Why didn’t anyone tell me earlier? Where’s Aurora? She must be devastated–I need to be with her.”
But Grandfather suddenly threw the divorce papers right at my face.
I was completely confused, blindly swatting the pages stuck to my skin.
“Aurora’s already gone,” he snapped. “She left with her mother’s ashes.”
“Today was your son’s funeral!”
