Audrey’s POV

I let my eyes fall closed, surrendering to the moment

Though I’d resigned myself to divorce, though my heart had long since given up on him, there was no denying Blake Parker’s raw magnetism in moments like these

Three years of marriage had taught me many things, but perhaps the most dangerous lesson was just how perfectly we fit together in these intimate moments. Despite everything the hurt, the betrayal, the impending divorce my body still remembered every touch, every kiss, every passionate night we’d shared

As his weight pressed me deeper into the leather seat, I found my resistance crumbling. Why not? I thought hazily. One last time before the divorce…

But before things could progress any further, he suddenly pulled back. The passionate moment shattered like glass, leaving me cold and confused

I blinked my eyes open, staring up at him uncertainly. What’s wrong?”

Seems like Miss Sinclair hasn’t been lacking male company lately.Blake’s cold laugh cut through the heated atmosphere like a blade. His gaze dropped pointedly to my collarbone, eyes darkening with something dangerous. Was it James Collins? Or perhaps that college boy from today?”

His question only deepened my confusion

As I glanced down instinctively, my eyes falling to my exposed collarbone, understanding hit me like a physical blow. So that’s what he thought was happening the red mark from yesterday’s spa disaster

The memory of Astrid’s words floated back: Trust me, if Blake sees this, he’ll definitely think it’s a love bite.”

Sometimes I wondered if my best friend knew my husband better than I did. She’d predicted his reaction perfectly, down to the exact shade of fury in his

eyes

At this thought, I suddenly let out a soft laugh. Unfortunately, it seemed that he took this smile as me reminiscing about sweet memories with other men, because his face darkened even more. He said coldly, I’ve kept things pure with Laurel, yet here you are, entangled with multiple men, even leaving marks on your neck.”

Seriously, I really found his words ironic. Here he was, playing the betrayed husband while planning his engagement party to another woman. The sheer absurdity of it all left a bitter taste in my mouth

Get out.His command cut through my thoughts like a blade

Fine.”

I didn’t bother trying to explain. What was the point? He’d already written his own version of events in his mind, just as he had with everything else in our marriage

The night air hit me like a slap as I pushed open the car door. My fingers trembled slightly as I adjusted my hoodie, but I forced them steady. Three months left to live, I reminded myself. No point getting worked up over this

The slam of the car door echoed through the quiet street as I started toward my apartment building. Each step felt heavier than the last, but I kept my spine straight. The last thing I needed was for Blake Parker to see any weakness

Intimacy is a twoway street, I thought grimly. And I don’t really need this anymore. The cancer growing inside me made such encounters increasingly dangerous anyway. In a way, his jealousy was doing me a favor

My phone’s sudden ring shattered the night’s silence. The screen lit up with an unfamiliar number, and I found myself glancing back at Blake’s car before answering

Hey, it’s me, Ethan.”

I was confused. “Ethan? How did you,..

Chapter 63

Got your number from Astrid, he explained quickly

I froze midstep, my attention caught by the car still idling in the distance. The engine’s quiet purr carried across the empty street, but the car hadn’t moved

as if Blake was waiting for something

AstridA sigh escaped me as I recognized the number she must have shared. Ethan, if this is about earlier.”

It’s not what you think. His voice carried an urgency that made me pause. This isn’t aboutthat.”
