Jake was one of Franklin’s personal secretaries. The resignation letter surprised him greatly.
He was among the few at the company who knew about Adele and Franklin’s relationship. Anyone close to Franklin knew his heart wasn’t with Adele,
After marriage, he remained cold toward her, rarely coming home. To get closer to and win over Franklin, Adele had chosen to work at Franklins company
Her initial goal was to become his personal secretary. But Franklin refused.
Even the old master’s intervention couldn’t sway him. Finally, Adele had to settle for joining the secretarial department as one of many ordinary
secretaries.
Initially, Jake worried she would cause chaos in the department. But the result surprised him.
Though Adele would use her position to get closer to Franklin, she chose her moments wisely and never pushed too far.
Instead, perhaps hoping to earn his respect, she worked diligently and showed remarkable capability. Whether during pregnancy or other times, she followed company procedures, never seeking special treatment.
Over the years, she became the department’s team leader. Jake had always observed her feelings for Franklin. Honestly, he never imagined she would resign. He couldn’t believe she would willingly leave.
Her resignation now probably meant something had happened between them, unknown to him, leading to Franklin forcing her out.
Despite her strong capabilities, Jake maintained professional courtesy, “I’ll take your resignation and arrange for your replacement soon.”
“Alright.” Adele nodded and returned to her desk.
Jake worked for a while before reporting to Franklin online. As they were wrapping up their discussion, he suddenly remembered Adele’s resignation,
“Oh, President Franklin, regarding-”
Although he had told Adele he would arrange her replacement quickly, he wanted to gauge Franklin’s thoughts on when exactly she should leave.
If Franklin wanted her gone tomorrow, he would make immediate arrangements.
But as the words reached his lips, he recalled what Franklin had said when Adele first joined: handle all her company matters according to standard procedures, no need to report specially to him.
He wouldn’t manage her affairs. And indeed, that’s how it had been. Over these years, Franklin had never actively inquired about Adele’s matters at work.
When encountering her at the company, he treated her completely like a stranger. During these years, Adele had performed excellently.
Two years ago, when they planned to promote her, considering Franklin’s dislike of her, they had specifically mentioned it to him. The implication being if he disapproved, they would drop it.
At the time, Franklin had frowned impatiently and reiterated that he wouldn’t interfere, telling them to follow procedures. He had said not to ask him about
Adele’s company matters again.
Seeing Jake’s hesitation, Franklin frowned: “What is it?” Jake snapped back to attention: “Nothing.” Since Franklin must already know about Adele’s resignation but hadn’t mentioned it, it clearly wasn’t important to him.
They should handle it like everything else, according to company policy. With this thought, Jake said nothing more.
Franklin ended the video call.

“What are you thinking about?” At noon, a colleague suddenly patted
Adele’s shoulder.
Adele came back to herself, smiling and shaking her head. “Nothing *
“Not calling your daughter today?”
“No, not anymore.” She usually called her daughter twice a day. Once at 1 AM, and once around noon.
Her office colleagues all knew this. What they didn’t know was that her daughter’s father was their company’s big boss.
After work, Adele bought some groceries and several potted plants before heading home.
After dinner, she checked online for news about the technology expo. After reading, she made a phone call: “Please reserve a ticket for me for nem month’s technology expo.”
“Are you sure?” came the cold reply.
“The last two times you asked me to reserve tickets, you never showed up. So many people dream of these tickets, and you just wasted them.”
The annual domestic technology expo was a major event in the tech industry, and tickets weren’t available to everyone. Their company had received several exhibition spots, and many of their elite employees wanted to attend.
For them, every spot was extremely valuable.
“If I don’t attend this time, I’ll never ask you again.” The other end went silent before hanging up.
Adele knew this meant agreement. She smiled slightly.
What she hadn’t mentioned was that she wanted to return to the company. As a partner, she had chosen to marry and have children when the company was just starting, stepping back from the company to focus on family.
This had completely disrupted their development plans, causing them to miss many opportunities. Everyone had been both angry and frustrated with
her.
These past few years, they had barely kept in touch.
True, she wanted to return to the company, but after marriage, her focus had been entirely on family. She had been away from the circle for too long.
She worried that if she returned to the company unprepared now she wouldn’t be able to keep up with their pace. So, she planned to spend some time thoroughly understanding the current state of the industry before making specific plans.
Over the next few days, Adele focused on work during office hours and handled her own affairs after work. She didn’t initiate contact with her daughter or Franklin.
Of course, they didn’t contact her either. This didn’t surprise her. Because even six months ago, contact had already become one–sided on her part. They had merely been passive recipients.
