Chapter 43
There was no one around, the streets were empty, and the pharmacy was still some distance away…
Adele was calculating in her mind when she noticed the strong smell of blood in the car.
She paused, started the engine, and asked, “Where to?”
“Straight ahead, to Santa Pier.” He added, “I’ll tell you how to get there.”
“No need, I know the way.”
Adele replied and started driving.
She concentrated on driving, and the man didn’t speak again, so the car became quiet.
Santa Pier was about half an hour away. Along the way, Adele’s expression remained calm, and her driving was steady and precise. She didn’t make a single wrong turn.
The man, holding the gun, gradually changed the way he looked at her.
But Adele didn’t notice.
A little while later, the man said, “Park under the banyan tree ahead.”
Adele, “Okay.”
The car stopped smoothly by the side of the road, and the man still kept the gun aimed at her. As he got out of the car, she took her bag back and calmly started rifling through it. “I have some first aid supplies here.”
In the half–hour drive, the smell of blood in the car grew stronger. She knew the man was probably injured.
The man paused but didn’t respond, instead getting out of the car and disappearing quickly into the darkness.
Since he had refused her offer, Adele didn’t insist. She turned the wheel and drove away.
A few minutes later, the man got on a boat that was waiting for him, and he took off his hat and mask.
His phone rang, and as he had someone tend to his injuries, he answered the call.
Before he could speak, Levi hurriedly asked, “Harry, are you alright? My people said they didn’t pick you up. Where
are you?”
“There was an accident. I’m already at the pier.”
“That’s good. How did this happen? You scared me half to death!”
After a moment, the call ended. He gazed at the tall tree in the distance, lost in thought.

Chapter 43
Adele returned to Jessica’s place half an hour later.
Jessica had taken the medicine and had some porridge. She was feeling a little better but furrowed her brows. “Why do I smell blood? Mag, are you hurt?”
“No.”
The man was injured. When he took her phone and bag, his blood had stained them.
She had wiped them when she got back, but it seemed she hadn’t cleaned them thoroughly.
The next day, after Jessica had fully recovered from her fever, Adele returned home.
She still hadn’t prepared the gown for the banquet the following evening.
In the afternoon, Adele went out for a while.
She arrived at a high–end boutique where the manager and several salespeople were adjusting a gown. It wasn’t until Adele walked closer that they noticed her.
“Sorry, miss. How can I help you?” the manager asked politely.
“I’ll just have a look,” Adele replied.
“Of course.”
Though she had married into the Collins family, Adele hadn’t attended many banquets over the years. After all, even when Franklin and the others had formal events to attend, they never brought her along.
As for Old Madam Collins, she had stepped back from the spotlight long ago and no longer cared for such occasions.
Adele didn’t have much experience with high–end fashion, but since Jessica worked in luxury apparel, she had picked up a basic sense of aesthetics.
There were so many beautiful gowns in the store that it was overwhelming.
Adele didn’t intend to be too picky. As long as the gown was decent, she was fine with it.
As she was thinking this, she noticed the gown that the salespeople had been adjusting. It was a light purple, semi–sheer chiffon gown with a cinched waist, adorned with intricate flower details.
The design was exquisite, and the model’s neck was draped with an elegant, high–end necklace. The gown combined lightness and luxury perfectly.
Adele couldn’t help but walk over to it.
Just as she was about to touch the fabric and feel its texture, the manager suddenly grabbed her hand firmly.
Adele winced, frowning in pain.

The manager quickly released her grip.
“Sorry, miss. I didn’t mean to hurt you. It’s just that this gown is a custom design for our VIP client. There’s only one in the world, and its price is quite high. If anything happens to it, we would be liable…”
