The scent seemed off.
He hesitated for a moment but took a small sip. As soon as the coffee touched his tongue, he put the cup down and said, “Have her make it again.
Chad was stunned for a second. “Yes, sir.”
Sherry received the message and became a bit anxious..
“Make it again? Was it too sweet or the flavor wrong? I followed Adele’s steps exactly, and the amount of sugar was correct. It shouldn’t have been a problem.”
“I’m not sure,” Chad said, not offering much help.
Sherry had to make another cup. She was nervous, and this time, Franklin didn’t try to taste it but only smelled it and put it down immediately, asking Chad, “What’s going on here?”
“Secretary Sherry may be nervous since it’s her first time making coffee for you. She probably didn’t get the right temperature…”
Franklin frowned. “Secretary Sherry? What about Adele?”
Chad froze. “Adele has already left the company. Didn’t you know?”
Franklin fell silent.
He hadn’t known.
Earlier, he had been aware that Adele’s attitude had caused some dissatisfaction with Chad, and Chad had wanted to dismiss her, but he didn’t realize she had actually left.
“When did she leave?”
“Last Thursday.”
“Got it.”
Adele had left, but it was likely only for a short while. He expected she would return soon.
Chad hesitated. “Then about the coffee…”
“Take it away. Just bring me a glass of warm water.”
“Yes, sir.”
By noon, Johnny went out for a business meeting, leaving Adele to dine alone in the company cafeteria.
Her colleagues from the same department saw her and greeted her politely, but there was no warmth in their attitude.
Adele didn’t mind.
After lunch, she returned to work, focusing on the tasks at hand.
Around 5 PM, she approached Simon and said, “I’ve almost finished. Can you take a look?”
“What?” Simon was momentarily confused. As he looked at the content Adele sent, he was initially baffled. But as he continued to read, his eyes widened in disbelief.
“You… you finished it all?”
This was the work that Yale had taken over ten days to complete! And now, Adele had understood everything and finished it all in just one day?

Adele paused, then answered truthfully, “I didn’t attend graduate school.”

“Why didn’t you go for graduate school? Was there some difficulty at home?”
But looking at Adele, she didn’t seem like someone who couldn’t afford tuition.
Moreover, with her impressive skills, she didn’t need to worry about the cost of education, did she?
Adele lowered her gaze and smiled faintly. “No, just some personal reasons.” She added, “Maybe in the future, I’ll consider further studies if the opportunity arises.”
After chatting for a while and helping a few colleagues with work problems, Adele left the company, and by the time she stepped out, it was nearly 7

She walked out of the office only to find Johnny standing by the door. “You’ve cleared up everyone’s doubts on your first day and earned their recognition. As expected of you.”
Adele smiled. “Should I treat you to dinner?”
Johnny raised an eyebrow. “What else do you think I’m waiting here for?”
Adele chuckled and walked out of the office with him.
Twenty minutes later, at the restaurant, as Adele was climbing the stairs, a child ran past her.
She stepped back to avoid the child but stumbled. Just as she was about to fall, Johnny reached out and caught her waist, steadying her.
Adele let out a relieved sigh, about to thank him, when she noticed Franklin and Levi standing not far away.
They had seen her.
Franklin stopped in his tracks.
