Chapter 14

Apr 17, 2025

The sun streamed through the trees, casting golden light on the pack grounds, but to Felicia, it felt like the weight of last night still hung heavy in the air. Every sound—the rustling leaves, the distant chatter of pack members—seemed sharper, like it carried hidden threats.

She couldn’t shake the image of Danny and Max frozen in fear as the rogue wolf prowled toward them. Her hands trembled as she poured herself a cup of tea, trying to steady her nerves. But no amount of warm liquid could calm the storm inside her.

A soft knock at her door pulled her from her thoughts. Orion entered, his expression unreadable. “You’re up early,” he said, taking a seat at the small table.

Felicia sighed, brushing a strand of hair from her face. “How could I sleep after last night?” She paused, her voice lowering. “Orion, this doesn’t feel like a coincidence. That attack… it wasn’t random, was it?”

Orion’s lips pressed into a thin line, his silence confirming what she already suspected. “No,” he said finally. “It wasn’t. They were after the children, Felicia. Specifically, your children.”

Her breath hitched, and she gripped the edge of the table to steady herself. “Then what do I do? How do I keep them safe if even this pack isn’t safe anymore?”

Orion leaned forward, his sharp eyes locking with hers. “I’ve been thinking about that all night. Felicia, I don’t think you should stay here anymore. Last night was a warning, and it won’t stop there. Whoever sent those rogues will come again. And the next time, it could be worse.”

Felicia stared at him, her stomach twisting with fear. She had built a life here, carved out a fragile sense of stability for her boys. But the thought of staying, of putting her children at further risk, made her decision feel inevitable. “Where would I even go?” she whispered.

Orion hesitated, his expression conflicted. “Lucien spoke to me last night after the attack. He offered to take you and the boys to his pack. He said he has the resources and security to keep you safe.”

“Lucien?” Felicia’s brow furrowed. “I barely know him, Orion. How can I trust him?”

“I don’t trust him either,” Orion admitted, leaning back in his chair. “But he’s right about one thing—his pack is stronger than ours. And until we know who’s behind these attacks, you need to think about what’s best for Danny and Max.”

Felicia’s heart clenched. Her instincts screamed to stay close to Orion, the one constant in her life, but her children’s safety had to come first. “I’ll think about it,” she said quietly, though her mind was already weighing the risks.

Meanwhile, back at his pack, Damien paced the dark room. The walls were lined with candles, their flickering flames casting eerie shadows across the stone floor. At the center of the room sat an old woman—her eyes milky white, her skin weathered with time. She was a clairvoyant, one who had served his pack for decades, offering guidance when answers were hard to find.

“Tell me about Felicia,” Damien said, his voice firm but laced with desperation. “Tell me about my children.”

The seer remained silent, her head tilting slightly as if listening to something he couldn’t hear. Damien’s fists clenched at his sides as his frustration grew. “I need answers,” he snapped. “Where is she? Are my sons safe?”

The woman’s lips parted, and her voice emerged, raspy yet calm. “The children… they are hidden in the shadow of wolves. Their path is uncertain, their future shrouded.”

Damien stepped closer, his jaw tightening. “And Felicia? What about her?”

The seer’s head tilted again, and her expression shifted, almost as if she were smiling at something unseen. “Her heart is torn, but her resolve is strong. She walks with caution, surrounded by allies and enemies alike. Trust and betrayal intertwine.”

Damien’s patience was wearing thin. He opened his mouth to demand more, but the seer raised a hand to stop him. “There is something else you must know.”

Her tone darkened, and the air in the room seemed to grow heavier. Damien stilled, his green eyes narrowing as he waited for her to continue.

“The child,” she said slowly, her voice echoing strangely in the small space. “The child you were told was yours… is not.”

Damien’s entire body froze, his breath caught in his throat. “What?” he whispered, his voice barely audible.

The seer’s cloudy eyes locked onto his, unblinking. “Danielle lied to you. The child she carried was never yours.”
