Chapter 42

Apr 17, 2025

Felicia felt her entire world shift as she stared at Lucien, her fingers still gripping the notebook tightly.

Daphne. Not Danielle.

She shook her head, trying to process the information. “So, you’re telling me the woman I’ve been calling Danielle—the same woman who has been attacking us, manipulating Damien, and murdering people—is actually your sister?”

Lucien exhaled sharply, running a hand through his hair, his expression tense. “I don’t know. I only ever knew her as Daphne. I’ve never heard of a Danielle before all of this.”

Felicia’s stomach twisted painfully. “Then how is she alive? You said she died.”

Lucien’s jaw clenched, his gaze darkening. “She did. Or at least, that’s what I thought.”

Felicia swallowed hard, gripping the edge of the desk for support. “Start from the beginning.”

Lucien sighed, leaning against the wall, arms crossed. His face was unreadable, but his voice held an edge of something she couldn’t quite define—pain, regret… or fear?

“Daphne was my youngest sister. We grew up together, trained together. We were inseparable,” Lucien began, his voice low and controlled, but Felicia could hear the underlying emotion.

“A few nights before Georgina disappeared… there was a vampire attack on our pack.”

Felicia’s breath hitched. “A vampire attack?”

Lucien nodded slowly. “It wasn’t random. They came for something—or someone. I remember the screams, the fires… and then…” His voice faltered for a moment, before he took a deep breath.

“Then I found Daphne’s body.”

Felicia froze, watching him closely. His posture was tense, his fists clenched.

“She was dead, Felicia.” His voice was haunted, as if he was reliving that very moment. “I held her. I felt her body go cold. I buried her.”

Felicia’s chest tightened. If that was true, then who—or what—was the woman they had been dealing with?

She forced herself to focus. “And then Georgina disappeared?”

Lucien nodded again. “Yes. Just a few nights later. One moment she was there, and then she was gone. I searched everywhere, but there were no signs of her. No tracks, no scent. It was as if she vanished into thin air.”

Felicia felt a sharp pang of unease. “And you never thought these two things were connected?”

Lucien’s eyes flickered with something dark. “At the time, I was too blinded by grief. I had just lost my sister. The love of my life and my children were taken from me. I wasn’t thinking logically.”

Felicia let out a slow, shaky breath. It was too much.

Daphne. Not Danielle.

A sister who supposedly died.

And now she was back—but not as the woman Lucien remembered.

Felicia felt her mind spinning. If Daphne had died, then the only possible explanation was that someone or something had brought her back.

But for what purpose?

She looked up at Lucien, her voice barely above a whisper. “And the necklace Damien was wearing? You said you recognized it?”

Lucien’s expression tightened, his lips pressing into a thin line. “Yes.”

Felicia frowned, confused. “How?”

Lucien hesitated before answering, his voice heavier this time. “Our grandparents gave us those necklaces when we were kids. They were enchanted—a symbol of our family’s lineage. Only Daphne and I had them.”

Felicia’s blood ran cold.

Only Lucien and Daphne had them.

Then why did Damien have one?

Lucien continued, his voice more controlled now. “At first, I didn’t think much of it when I saw Damien wearing something similar. I assumed it was a coincidence—until now.”
