The Awakening–2
“Finally… a… sensible idea,” her voice was so weak I could barely hear it.
I searched for a hidden spot and gently set her down. Then I sat beside her, leaning against a crate.
This place was like a fucking maze. Since escaping that room, it felt like we’d been going in circles. I was too tired and hungry to care if they found us anymore. All I wanted was painkillers, food, and a short nap.
“Aurora, I’m not sure we can get out of here,” I told her, but received no response. I turned to look at her. Her eyes were closed, her skin as pale as paper, her lips once like roses now bloodless. “Aurora?” I called again, but still no response.
My heart started racing, panic spreading.
I shook her, and her body tilted. I caught her before she hit the ground. I turned her over, laying her on my lap. My trembling fingers reached for her neck, checking for a pulse- thank the Moon Goddess, though faint, it was still there.
“Aurora, hang in there, we’ll find a way out.” I whispered, knowing she couldn’t hear me, knowing these words couldn’t even convince myself.
My tears flowed uncontrollably. I was completely exhausted, trapped in this goddamn abandoned factory, Aurora severely wounded and unconscious, and Graves’s men still searching for us. I had never felt so helpless.
I kept my fingers on Aurora’s pulse, just to make sure she was still okay. We might never be close, but that didn’t mean I wanted her dead.
Just then, footsteps broke the brief silence. I looked up to see a tall werewolf standing a few meters away from us, gun raised.
“Look what I found?” he smiled sinisterly, his eyes gleaming with something spine-
chilling, “Tired of running? Or is your friend already dead?”
I remembered that power from earlier, that feeling as if something inside me had awakened. I lowered my head and concentrated, trying to find that energy again, that force that had turned my hands into claws. My blood began to warm, as if something was

churning inside me… and then suddenly, it vanished, like a candle blown out by a gust of
wind.
Nothing. I was still just ordinary, powerless, wolfless Thea.
The man slowly approached, “The boss wants you alive, but he didn’t say you couldn’t
suffer a bit.”
The expression on his face was twisted and evil, as if he truly enjoyed this moment. The scent of excitement emanating from him made me realize he wasn’t just carrying out a mission; he enjoyed the pleasure of torturing others.
I closed my eyes, realizing we were done for. Leo, my dear son, Mommy is so sorry. I really tried. I never even got to see the baby in my belly…
Suddenly, a deafening wolf howl echoed through the abandoned factory, followed by the sound of something being torn apart. I opened my eyes to see the figure I knew best,.
carrying the scent I still craved standing before me–Sebastian, but not entirely human.
His ears stood tall, pointed and covered with fur, his hands completely transformed into
wolf claws, with even a hint of a silvery, furry tail behind him. His eyes were red, sharp
teeth protruding from between his lips.
At his feet, the man lay in a pool of blood, his neck split open so deeply that his head was
almost separated from his body.
“Sebastian,” I desperately controlled my voice, trying not to look at this bloody scene,
unsure whether to feel relieved or more panicked. My mind was in chaos–was I just like
this too? In a “half–shifted” state? But how could that be?
When his gaze turned to Aurora lying unconscious on the ground, all my thoughts turned
to fear.
Shit. I had forgotten about her.
I didn’t know which fate was worse. Facing Graves or Sebastian.
“We need an ambulance,” I said shakily, my voice barely a whisper, “She’s been shot, lost
too much blood. Lost consciousness a few minutes ago.”
He didn’t answer, but his face was cold as ice, which scared me more than anything. I was

certain of one thing: when Aurora woke up and told him she had been shot while saving me, Sebastian would definitely make me pay.
