“What matters is that you’re safe,” Dad continued. “We’ll always support you, no matter what.“.
Sophia and Iris rushed over too, their faces full of concern. Though they didn’t say anything, I could see the same understanding and support in their eyes.
I struggled to stand, Sebastian immediately supporting me. My legs were still weak, but my mind was completely clear.
“Hallucinogens,” I said breathlessly. “Someone put hallucinogens in my drink.”
Sebastian’s face turned iron–cold instantly. “Who?”
I looked around, searching for any possible suspects. The security measures for the party were extremely tight under Sebastian and Dad’s strict control–Vanessa couldn’t have
gotten in. But Aurora was still nowhere to be seen.
This made me uneasy. After the incident at the police station, I thought Aurora and I had
reached some understanding. I didn’t want to suspect her, but why wasn’t she here? Where had she gone? What was she doing? More importantly, if this was connected to
her, what would be her reason for doing this?
“Sebastian,” I gripped his arm tightly. “There are people at this party with ill intentions. You need to organize security immediately, check all entrances and exits, make sure no
one leaves.”
He nodded. “I’ll arrange it right away.”
He immediately turned to the crowd and issued commands: “All security personnel report for duty immediately! No one leaves without my permission!” Then he turned to me: “Stay here, I’ll handle this.”
I watched him walk toward a group of security personnel, quickly deploying them. Meanwhile, the crowd began gathering around me again. But I quickly noticed this
gathering was completely different from before–they weren’t coming to question me, but to establish relationships with me.
“Ms. Thea, someone who had just been passionately criticizing my unworthiness to
inherit the Alpha position approached cautiously. “If there’s anything you need help with…”
“Miss Kincaid, I’d like to discuss future cooperation between our two Packs…”
“The power you just displayed was truly shocking…”
One after another, people began introducing themselves, offering various cooperation proposals and alliance requests. Those who had been questioning my identity just
minutes ago were now eagerly trying to win my favor.
I felt disgusted. These people’s attitudes were based entirely on the power I’d displayed, not recognition of me as a person. When I seemed weak, they mocked me; when I seemed strong, they wanted to curry favor with me.
“Sorry,” I stood up. “I need some fresh air.”
I pushed through the crowd, walking toward the edge where it was relatively quiet. I deliberately didn’t let anyone follow–I needed to be alone to think about everything that had just happened.
“At least no one dares question us anymore,” Diana said in my mind.
Yes, but was this what I wanted? To gain respect through displays of power? I’d rather they recognize me for my character and achievements, not because they feared my strength.
I took a deep breath of fresh air, trying to calm down. But my mind was still in chaos.
Someone had wanted me to lose control in front of everyone. I didn’t know what her purpose was, or whether she already knew about my wolf in advanced. Though that plan had failed, it showed there were still enemies acting in the shadows, and I wasn’t sure if this was connected to Vanessa or Aurora.
Just as I was thinking about all this, a voice came from behind me.
“Thea?”
I turned to see Elizabeth walking toward me. Her expression was complex, showing both concern and an emotion I couldn’t read.
“Elizabeth.” I nodded, unsure how to respond.
She stopped a few steps away from me, silent for a moment, then spoke: “I have
something to say to you.”
