Chapter 13 First Direct Encounter
The woman, who turned out to be Francesca, smiled. “The pofion’s meant for his grandma, and I get to make some cash too. Earning from my ex–husband gives me a bit of satisfaction. So, how’s she doing?”
“Well, the reagent can slow the spread of cancer, but it won’t cure it. Unless we can get in touch with Theodore, maybe we’ll see a miracle. By the way, I invited Benedict to the gala tonight. Are you still going?”
Francesca touched her smooth check. The scars from the fire had healed, but the emotional pain was still there.
“Of course, why not? I’ve cut ties with him, but I don’t need to hide. Plus, I’m curious about how he’ll react when he sees me again.”

The annual celebrity gala in Rediff City was always a big deal. Everyone with any kind of status showed up. Even though the bodyguards set up barriers, the reporters still managed to sneak in their cameras.
When Benedict got out of the car and walked into the venue, he didn’t even glance around. He had this aura about him that made him the center of attention wherever he went.
But the reporters weren’t focusing on him now, they were all about the woman with him.
Suzanna had the full support of the Landon family. In the past two years, she had made a name for herself in the entertainment industry. Her acting wasn’t great, but she had still won two Best Actress Awards.
She and Benedict made the perfect headline, but Suzanna wasn’t happy.
Benedict hadn’t actually invited her. She had only ended up with him because her uncle got her the invite. But Suzanna was good at making sure everyone thought she was with him, and she wasn’t about to miss the chance to be seen.
Suzanna proudly wore the necklace he gave her and posed for the reporters.
During the three years after the accident, Benedict had almost always done what she wanted. No matter the situation, as long as she brought up Jack, things got sorted out.
Since Francesca’s death, Benedict had seemed like a completely different person. Suzanna knew she couldn’t catch him anymore, but if she didn’t move fast and marry into the Landon family, the opportunities in front of her would eventually slip away.
She had worked too hard to settle for just being a movie queen.
As the organizers greeted them, a commotion broke out by the door. Someone said, “The young Mr. Denvers is here.”

The custom Bugatti, the only one of its kind, rolled in. As soon as Raymond stepped out, every him was eager to say hello. He had that rich, gentleman vibe; polished, poised, and just as untouchable as Benedict.
“Isn’t that the doctor who operated on your grandma?” Suzanna asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Yeah and he’s also the Denvers family’s eldest son”

But then something even stranger happened. Instead of walking in, Raymond circled around to the other side of the car and opened the door, politely helping a woman out.
The guy who had never been linked to any drama was now walking in with a woman, so, of course, she stole the spotlight.
There was Francesca, looking breathtaking; her gown fit like it was made just for her, her makeup flawless. The moment she stepped out, all eyes were on her.
“Who is this girl?”
“Guess she’s really lucky to catch Mr. Denvers’s attention.”
The party hall was sparkling, packed with high–society types. Not many knew Benedict was married, and even fewer had ever seen his ex–wife. Even though the fire two years ago had made waves, everyone only knew his wife was gone.
Benedict’s expression darkened. It felt like the entire room had gone quiet, so quiet he could hear his own heartbeat. His eyes locked on the woman, gracefully walking toward them with Raymond’s arm linked with hers.
Even though her face had changed, and her voice had a slight rasp, he knew it was her the second he saw
her.
Benedict couldn’t explain why he was so sure. After three years of marriage, he had always ignored Francesca. But seeing her again, the familiarity hit him right away. Even from just a side profile, he was certain it was her.
Then, Francesca shot Suzanna an indifferent glance, a small smirk tugging at her lips. She was enjoying every second of Suzanna’s shock.
