Benedict initially wanted to give the organizer a piece of his mind, but then he glanced at Francesca and paused. After all, what Suzanna had done to Francesca in the past was pretty unforgivable. He decided not to press the issue anymore.

He stood up straight, giving off dominant air. “Suzanna slipped and fell into the water. She misunderstood Francesca. Let’s just leave it at that. It’s cold, so we’re going back to change.
He said it matter–of–factly, already turning to walk away with Suzanna.
Suzanna almost burst out laughing, but quickly remembered to keep up her act. She gave a polite bow to the group. “I misunderstood Francesca. Sorry for causing trouble.”
Her calm, almost tearful look was probably the best performance of her career.
The crowd felt a mix of sympathy for Suzanna and annoyance toward Benedict. They thought he was being a bit cold, letting his girlfriend take the fall for his ex–wife.
But no one dared interfere since it was the Landon family’s issue. So, they just shifted their judgment from Suzanna to Francesca.
They all looked at Francesca with disdain, but she didn’t budge, not a single change in her expression. Looking at Benedict and Suzanna, she said calmly, “Did I say you could leave?”
They both stopped and turned around. Benedict looked frustrated. “I don’t want to drag this out. What more do you want?”
Suzanna watched Francesca walk over with a victorious smile, thinking she had won. But she still tried to keep her image intact, “If you want money, I can-
Before she could finish, a sharp slap rang out. It wasn’t loud, but it hit like a thunderclap, sending shockwaves through the crowd.
What is she doing? How dare she hit the woman in front of Mr. Landon? was probably what everyone was thinking.
Suzanna froze, completely stunned by the slap. Her head snapped to the side, and a sharp scream escaped her lips. This time, the pain wasn’t just for show.
“What the hell are you doing?!” Benedict roared, reaching for Francesca.
Raymond stepped in without hesitation, grabbing Benedict’s arm with an almost lazy smile. “Relax, Mr. Landon. This is between the ladies. No need for you to get involved.”
Raymond had been boiling with anger earlier, wracking his brain for a way to help Francesca save face. When she took matters into her own hands, he was as surprised as anyone.
But it didn’t take long for him to adjust. Now, he was fully in her corner, ready to back her up.
For him, it was simple. If someone needed to be knocked down, so be it.

Benedict’s eyes locked on the hand gripping his arm, his expression turning lethal.
His gaze turned into something primal, like a predator sizing up its prey. “Mr. Denvers, how dare you! Do you really think you can stand up to me just because the Denvers family is behind you?”
To Benedict, Raymond’s move was an outright insult, a challenge to his authority in front of everyone. And something like that came with a huge consequence.
The other guests watched in stunned silence. The Denvers family might be rich, but they were strictly business. The Landon family, on the other hand, came with mafia ties, a whole different level of dangerous.
While a business rivalry might end in bankruptcy or jail, messing with the mafia could get one killed.
And for what? A woman? The guests exchanged uneasy glances, wondering if Raymond had lost his mind.
Raymond didn’t even blink at Benedict’s threat. Instead, he smiled faintly and said, “Look, Mr. Landon, if you’re itching to punish me, go ahead. Just make sure you’ve lined up a new doctor for your grandmother first.”
That hit its mark. Benedict’s anger flickered, but he stayed silent, his jaw tightening. Raymond wasn’t just bluffing, he had been Mabel’s doctor for years, keeping her condition steady when no one else could.
Finding a replacement wasn’t just difficult; it was nearly impossible.
