Jessica’s face flickered for a moment before she quickly shook her head. “You’re wrong! Stanley would never be with Wendy!” “What makes you so sure?”
Well, Stanley was under the Heartchain Curse! Every time he got near Wendy, he’d be wracked with a pounding headache.
Of course, Jessica never told Halsey about the curse. Instead, she just smiled confidently and said, “I’ll bet you anything Stanley’s not with Wendy.”
“Alright, let’s bet. If Stanley isn’t with Wendy, I’ll have to call you Your Highness‘.”
“Okay, if Stanley is with Wendy, I’ll call you ‘Your Highness‘.”
The two made their bet: Whoever lost would address the winner as ‘Your Highness.”
Halsey grabbed her phone again. “It’s time to find out the truth. I’m calling Wendy right now.”
“Fine. I’ll be sitting right here waiting. You’d better be ready to call me ‘Your Highness‘!”
Halsey dialed Wendy’s number. The phone rang twice before being answered, and Wendy’s clear voice came through.
“Hey.”
“Hey, guess who I’m with? Jessica! Stanley invited her to dinner today, but he never showed up. Now Jessica and I made a bet, and I bet that Stanley’s with you. So, is he there with you?”
“I… Ah!” Wendy suddenly gasped.
Halsey jumped to her feet, clutching the phone tightly. “What’s wrong?”
She heard Wendy’s voice in the background, panicked and strained “Stanley, what are you doing? Let me go…”
Halsey’s eyes lit up; Stanley really had gone to Wendy, and they were together right now.
“You’re with Stanley, aren’t you-”
Before she could finish, the line went dead with two quick beeps, then the busy signal.
Jessica stood up, staring at Halsey in shock. “What did you just say? Stanley’s really with Wendy?”
Halsey smirked. “Yup. You heard it yourself. They’re together right now.”
Jessica felt like she had been pushed off a cliff. She couldn’t understand why Stanley had stood her up only to be with Wendy instead.
What she couldn’t understand even more was how Stanley–now under the Heartchain Curse–could still be with Wendy. It was unbelievable!
She knew how powerful the Heartchain Curse from Coldost was. She just couldn’t believe it had no control over Stanley.
Halsey stepped closer. “Remember our bet? You lost. Now it’s time to call me ‘Your Highness‘.”
“I won’t!” Jessica snapped, her emotions boiling over. “No way! I don’t believe Stanley is with Wendy. You’re just trying to trick
me!”
“You won’t believe it until you see it yourself, huh? If you don’t trust me, I’ll take you there,” Halsey taunted.
“Take me there?”
“Yeah. Seeing is believing. Once you see them together with your own eyes, we’ll see what you have to say then.”

Jessica clenched her fists. She really didn’t believe it.
“Fine! Let’s go now. I won’t take your word for it. I need to see it myself!”
