Even though Wendy was deeply worried about Stanley and wanted to stay by his side, she knew the hard to leave. If she stayed. all it would do was cause him more pain.
Without looking back, Wendy turned and walked away.

Stanley threw back the covers and climbed out of bed, wrapping his arms fightly around her from behind

But Stanley refused to let go. Instead, he held her even tighter. “I don’t mind the pain. Just don’t leave me
Suddenly, a sharp wave of agony crashed over him. His vision went black, and his tall, strong frame collapsed again. Wendy caught him just in time. “Stanley!”
When Stanley woke again, it was night. Horace and Brittany were by his bedside.
“Hey, Stanley.”
Their eyes were full of concern as they gently helped him sit up.
Stanley glanced around but didn’t see Wendy. “Where’s Wendy? Where did she go?”
Horace hesitated. “She…”
“Is she leaving with Bella? No, I have to find her!” Stanley threw back the covers and got out of bed.
Brittany quickly stepped in. “No, she hasn’t left! She’s in the room right next door.”
Stanley’s eyes widened. “Really? You’re not lying to me?”
“We’re not lying. She’s very worried about you, but she can’t come near you right now. If she does, your Heartchain Curse will flare up. So she has to stay in the room beside you.”
Horace and Brittany felt heavy guilt. The Heartchain Curse was a curse cast on Stanley by Ida and Jessica together. They bore an undeniable responsibility for it.
But Stanley wasn’t convinced. “No, I’m going to find her!”
“Stanley!”
Meanwhile, Wendy sat in the next room. After treating Stanley with acupuncture, she had come out, but despite her worry, the dared not get close to him anymore. She had to keep her distance.

Now, one stood outside the door and one inside. They spoke through the barrier between them.
When Stanley heard Wendy’s voice, his restless heart finally settled. He curled his thin lips into a faint smile. “When I didn’t see you just now, I thought you had left. I thought you took Bella and left me behind.”
